I have never triggered a paragon/renegade persuade with Kaidan. I always stick with paragon comments generally anyway, but definitely with Kaidan always paragon :-O
It is interesting after all this time finding out that there are situations that can cause that....

what fort said. kaidan works for everything, even when he overlaps skills. the me1 wiki makes it sound like kaidan is pretty useless, esp. if you're playing a biotic. i found adept shep + kaidan + liara was a dream team on hard core. the mobs don't ever stay on their feet for more than a second. i would imagine engineer shep + kaidan couldn't go wrong.

The combination of Kaidan, Adept Shep and Liara felt incredibly over powered to me, It like I was skeet shooting the entire time. Posted Image

This so very much.

Sometimes on planet sidequests... I'd actually lose sight of where a person got lifted to.

it's glorious, no? adept shep or vanguard + singularity shep & kaidan & liara tend to lose sight of people. i often would find a lone cerberus operative stuck in the ceiling after a battle and have to use a singularity to pull them down where we could finish them off.

re: renegading kaidan - my last playthrough, i actually had my shep argue with him up until the persuade point, then back off with the "sorry, i'm just stressed" line. somehow, i LOVED that conversation - like shepard sometimes just lost her cool and could talk to kaidan about things that bugged her - and she could even admit she was in the wrong. however, i reloaded and took all paragon options. sadly, at the moment a guy you care about is telling you about some traumatic point in his past, i really couldn't say anything but "dang. that sucks. you okay about all that?" i just found bringing up race/politics at that moment required too much head-canon spinning for my shep. but i do wish they had (or have, in the future DLC? pretty please?) some more moments where shep and kaidan can actually talk about things and possibly even disagree, rather than always having the "good" squaddies say "yes shepard, whatever you say shepard."

@Sage: I did mine without singularity. Just need a high level of lift and throw and you can knock people into other places. Of course, I would have to get really creative to get people unstuck!

Hmm... I've tried the Kaidan + Adept/Vanguard + Liara team. Liara always dies too fast for me to get a chance to skeet shoot, even in the best armor I could find for her.

I just don't get where some people don't understand how awesome biotics are in ME1 (and that's partly how I feel Kaidan is overlooked). Heck, even my own boyfriend didn't find Kaidan useful (because he didn't bother to play with squadmate abilities during combat), so he took Ash and Tali everywhere with him.

i think part of the problem is the Auto Level Up for kaidan is quite stupid. it maxes throw and overload, which are useful, but not nearly as rockin' as neural shock. also, if you don't max his decrypt skills, you need tali or garrus to help open stuff. i found when i manually leveled him for an all biotic team, his skills were amazing.

Auto-level is just bad in any game. And, I know that I made sure it was turned off for my boyfriend's game. He just went into too much of FPS mode with the game.

His loss for missing out on the hunky Kaidan.

I LOVE using neural shock. It's his best power.

But... but... you miss out on epicness like the "serving under" line!  Or the "I think you need more practice 'appreciating' me" line!

As, awesome, and epic, as some of those "renegade" paths are for saying things like "I don't believe I've had the pleasure of you serving underneath me"... they aren't always IC for my Shepards to say. Some of them... sure. Some of the others... they need something different. (My canon Shepard tends to be a mix of Paragon/Neutral sayings with him)

i found i chose either paragon or renegade lines with kaidan. i virtually never went the neutral path, because often that came off very...cold. renegade teasing + paragon interest worked for the convos i liked best.

My canon shep is mostly Paragon, except in the locker scene. I like two of the neutral options ("I pushed as hard as I could. They wouldn't listen." and "I'm sick of it too. Maybe we need to take a little initiative.") The rest of the responses, I go Paragon. I love the "Sometimes I need a shoulder" line, and as much as I just said I love the renegade teasing Kaidan about 'appreciate', I usually go for the paragon "Galaxy in the balance and you trip talking to me"

Edit: And damn it, now I want to reinstall ME after I get done with class this afternoon to play that conversation again!

As all my Kaidan-intended Shepards have developed multiple-personality syndrome and ended up perfect for other people in alternate realities, I am making a new Kaidan-faithful-Shepard. I'm not sure how renegade-y she'll be yet. I shall have to tell you all how it goes. :D

Same here.  The "Galaxy in the balance" is one of my favorites and it's pretty IC for my Shep; I'm also a sucker for slightly awkward military men and that just brings it out in Kaidan.

The only time I ever take a Renegade option is "Oh, be a man!" the night before Ilos.  It's the sort of playful teasing that is perfectly in-character for my Shep... and besides, it's just a great line.

I actually choose a lot of neutral lines, with the rest mostly paragon and few bottom options.

The night before Ilos, neutral option was perfect for my Shep: "You're still hesitating? After all this time. What are you afraid of?"

She lacks snark, and tends to be pretty straightforward and serious in conversation so it fit.

I prefer to take a lot of the neutral and renegade lines. You get to see a bit more of the playful Kaidan, like this after he compliments Shepard:

"I bet you say that to all your commanding officers."
"Yeah, ever since I heard the Captain's mess gets better food."

It is one of my favourite moments in the romance.

:)

This is why I'm always  when people say he has no sense of humor.  I love his humor.  Too dry for some folks maybe?

Yeah, it's very understated. But he is quite a smartass when he warms up to Shep.

The smartassery is brilliant.

I always take Kaidan and Wrex everywhere with me in ME1, if only because I am constantly rolling with laughter.

But.. but.. I don't care for those lines anyway, tbh, I wish he was more in control...................  BioWare write the way they wish women would come onto them.....
Some women like to be pursued it makes us feel attractive ;)

I'm sneaking into the discussion and adding my two cents;

I also love the 'playful' side of Kaidan; that he's a smartass is quite apparent when he's talking to Joker. I imagine he gave the same attitude to Vyrnnus.

And yes, I'm new here at the forum ^^
