I played good character and choose him for king. Sure he is more evil type but i thought he would get job done and be better king than old guy who looked like he could die any day.

Most people i seen did not do that.

No, most people I know of on the forums do pick Bhelen, at least for their canon playthroughs. In fact, Harrowmont supporters seem to be more in the minority.

So is this going be one main import choices in da2?

Will there actually be any difference in world if you choose bhelen or harrowmont

I play mostly "good" characters and I almost always put the little weasel on the throne. Just have to hope that his son with Rica is a better man than he as well as being a good king.

Most of my wardens support Bhelen. His initial quest is more fun.

Seeing how the game hasn't been released yet, i couldn't tell you. And it's hard to figure out from developer interviews what choices will, if any, have signifigant impact on DA2, beyond a few lines. But if they were going ti import important choices, then I would think how you dealt with orzammar would be one of the most important things you import.

At least I hope so.

Yup, I play a "good" character, and I always pick Bhelen. The man is scum, but he wants to do right by his people, not keep the status quo.

A more appropriate question would be: Am I the only one who thinks Bhelen is great.

Because there is less of a consensus on that and most think he is a "bad person". While I think he is great, taking everything about him into consideration.

I don't know if I could call him great per se. I think he has the makings of a good ruler, but considering what he's willing to do...I choke at calling him great.

For me, it's what he is willing to do that is a part of why he is great.

I don't mind someone being ruthless to a certain extent, but I draw the line at killing your own family members.

But I think we've had this conversation before, I don't think we're going to persuade each other otherwise. :)

No you are not alone.

All of histories most powerful and greatest leaders have been bastards to some extent, Bhelen fits right in.

Bhelen didn't live in a functional family nor in a milieu that encouraged a "normal" family. His father also killed his brother to get to the throne.

He's a bastard, I think, but he's also a visionary bastard who has a realistic grasp on the situation/score in Orzammar.. I certainly wouldn't invite him to my house for a barbecue or party (all of which feature the most awesome food this side of Granada) but I would sit down in a coffee shop and discuss his plans and future goals/visions, or attend a seminar where he was guest speaker. He would be highly interesting to talk to, on many levels.

No, he's not great IMO. He's a despot and a rat, but the better choice of the two we're given.

I would invite him to a barbecue or dinner personally, though I think he'd probably decline.

One mans tyrant is one mans visionary.

Bhelen may be quite harsh but so what? Thedas and Orzamar are harsh places and you need someone like that. Not someone who bends over and takes it from the whole assembly.

It could be a nod to his leadership qualifications and general intelligence, in my case.

I once said to a family member, regarding a certain leader in recent history, that the people I'd invite to barbcues and dinner pig outs are not the same people I'd want in charge of the world's largest stockpile of WMD.

So, Bhelen gets my vote, but he will never get a taste of my awesome chicken and leek pie orChinese honey spare ribs.

His loss.B)

Ah, I guess that depends on our conceptions of a dinner. I was thinking about something very formal. Where we discuss things after, while servants feed us grapes :P

I think he's a rat bastard. But he's a better choice than Harrowmount for king. To be blunt, the dwarves are fundamentally screwed with those two being their only choices.

Oh, I see. Not just a dinner party then, but a Roman banquet, minus the usual drunken depravity and compulsary vomiting before courses. In that case, I don't see why Bhelen would decline. B)

Yea absolutely no drunkness.
I don't think Bhelen would approve of getting drunk anyways.

I could certainly see him, at a dwarven party, making sure everyone's drinks are always topped up, giving the appearance of a dutiful host ensuring his guests enjoyment. Cracking jokes, encouraging the free consumption of mind dimming substances.

But all the while doing it to keep people's guard down, inhibitions down, wits addled, and tounges loose.

A classic tactic and the only use of alcohol that I can think of (consumption wise).

It's one I've certainly used on occasion, and is a time honored tradition in the business of power. You would think after millenia of successes, more people, especially those in power, would have caught on, yet it still works like magic.

I'd even be willing to guess that's where Bhelen got alot of his start. The codexes say he was a mediocre kid, nothing particularly striking. Given the hedonistic and social nature of the noble caste, I'm willing to bet even as a kid he probably picked up some pretty hefty bits info at the lavish parties his father most likely threw often. He says he wasn't until recently allowed to mix with Orzammar's best because he was considered a child, but he probably managed to slide around the rule a bit, or send trusted servants to do so.

When we meet him in game, he knows more than Harrowmont about the dirty secrets of the noble caste, who is doing what and where, ect. And since Endrin only died recently, he hasn't been out and about officially mingling for very long.
