Well, a few of them do. There's one for completing the game that grants an XP bonus, letting you level faster on new playthroughs. Also, I believe the loyalty achievements are how the game determines which bonus powers you can pick; with all of those done, you can have your choice of a bonus talent from the beginning.
I also recently lost all achievements, and I am not exactly sure how it happened. I don't go up to the captains quarters often but i recently did and noticed that many of my older achievements were gone, including the "recruited X" and gained X's loyalty ones. Then it dawned on me that that's why i couldn't switch back to the bonus power I had previously (I used the advanced training option to try a different one and wanted to swap back later) I'd assumed maybe you only had so much time after earning their loyalty to use their power.
OK. so my question. I don't care much for achievement medals but is the lack of having the loyalty achievements going to impact more of the game play in ME2 and ME3? Is the story line going to be altered? In reading through other threads i unfortunately stumbled upon the SPOILER
that not having earned loyalty determines whether some crew live or die at some point in the game END SPOILER. Is not being able to earn those loyalty achievements going to affect that portion of the plot?
