Why withold content from people unwilling to 'faith buy' this game?

It's not out until March and yet there's a 11th of January deadline for the signature edition?

The people that preordered it would have done so anyways. The people who don't trust developers will always wait. It's just a little added incentive. I know I'm going to buy no matter what, now I will just do so earlier.

You're not being shortchanged, those who pre-order are being rewarded, there's a difference.
The only difference is what side you're on. Perspective is everything.
Anyway, it's because EA is in charge. On the bright side, you can always put $5 down at gamestop and then not pick it up till after the reviews come out. And if you don't like what you see/hear, can cancel and put the $5 down on something else.

The Prince companion is an extra aka a bonus aka a non-essential character. You can have a perfectly good time with the game after you've read its' reviews and bought the regular version without the 7$ DLC.
Riiiight, day 1 dlc is totally cool.

If you venture out of these parts, you'll see many gamers calling foul on the new pre-order deal. It's lame. And do I really need to bring up how much better GoG's deal for TW2 is? There's no comparison.

You people who act like DLC, EA, Bioware ect. are the devil, are idiots. You are the entitled red headed bastard children of the gaming community who give us a bad name. You don't deserve sh*t, but Bioware decided to reward customers and create essentially a collector's edition at the price of a regular edition, and what do people do? B*tch. Feel entitled that they should get it for free even if they wait and pirate it, or wait a year and buy it used, or all this other bullsh*t that won't give the developer any money whatsoever. And people who b*tch about release date DLC, well open your eyes. Games are not finished on the release date. They are finished months in advance. Developers aren't going to sit around for those extra months twiddling their thumbs. And no, the EXTRA content the create AFTER the game is finished is nothing you are entitled to. It was never meant to be a part of the game, but now since they found themselves with extra time, they have created something to further improve their game, and are offering it as a bonus. And what do 'gamers' do? B*tch. The gaming community (or at least parts of it) seriously need to grow up.

I pre-ordered because I'm a sucker. Loved Dragon Age:Origins and Awakening and want as much possible useless junk for Dragon Age 2. Call me what you will, I have faith that this will be a great game.
Don't you feel that your support is being exploited?
It's great that you enjoyed DA:O, I did too, but now your already sold on another game with that brand which is fine but if you decided to exercise some personal agency and wait for some more in game footage, demos etc you're getting short changed?

You don't get the prince companion and quests unless you're willing to commit to a full purchase before the 11th of January when there is scant information out about the game to effectively let you make an informed decision about it's quality.
Are you sure about the full purchase thing? I preordered the game, but I am not going to pay for anything until I see more of the game. Meaning I will have the signature edition, because I preordered it early, but coming march 11 or whenever the release is, I will look at reviews and gameplay and be ready to cancel my preorder if the game is bad.
But if I have to make a full purchase at this moment, and I will be degraded to standard edition, then I will simply cancel my order, and either wait for "game of the year edition" or simply rent the game at my library.
But I must say I find this kind of marketing to be somewhat disgusting.

If it wasn't for the fact that I really didn't like the feel of TW1, or European RPGs in general, I would have already bought that game, probably on GOG, but more probably in retail for the awesome freebies. You're absolutely right. Their 'premium' version trumps this Signature Edition by a mile and a half. But, what CD Projekt is trying to do is different. They want longtime fans to buy the Collector's Edition, with a truckload of loot for 130$. Bioware just wants us to pledge to buy the game early. Different marketing strategies.slimgrin wrote...

I'd still like some physical loot with the Signature Edition though. Exclusively digital freebies feel.... disappointing.

the way i see it, there are two different conditions in this
1- pre-order the signature edition, you get sebastian for free, if not his price tag is 7 dollars
2- project ten dollar implements aprox. 10 dollars worth of dlc if you buy a new game
if condition 1 isn't met, condition 2 might kick in if you buy the game new and sebastian may implemented in this condition.
if both conditions aren't met (buy the game used) you'd have to buy sebastian if you wanted him.
that is my take on it.
reasons why i believe this to be the case:
"EA’s solution is what CEO John Riccitiello calls “Project Ten Dollar.” The goal of Project Ten Dollar is to encourage new game sales by providing free DLC that used game purchasers would have to pay ten dollars to gain access to. As part of that effort, EA announced that all Fiscal 2011 titles will feature online content."
DA2's release date is still within 2011's fiscal year which ends at march 31st (canada, since that's where they're stationed)
so... most likely new copies will still receive dlc stuff that amounts closely to 10 dollars.
sebastian (7dollars) is to me very likely to be implemented this way.

OP, you're not going to win on these forums with this discussion. Too many will back Bioware and EA no matter what they do. I don't like the pre-order deal either, the way they did it with ME2 was fair for both retailer and customer. Not enough apparently.

A company is trying to make a bit of money before a product ships by giving an incentive to early-adopters! Gosh golly darn! Why can't BioWare make this game free for everyone!? Can't they see not everyone is rich!?
