Anyone else think the deck is stacked against Isabela?  Taking the female lead after  Morrigan gives her some BIG shoes to fill.

If she doesn't measure up, will it hurt DA2?

It will be hard to top Morrigan, as she was my personal fave character, there will be comparisons for alot of the characters, if they arent as good as the ones from DAO, this game might not go over as well.

I think alot of people are still sour that Morrigan isnt in this game as well.

Well, to me, the deck is stacked against Isabela because she's a petty little NPC from Origins with delusions of grandeur.

But that's just me.

Isabela is entirely optional. She isn't the lead female.

Since when?  She's gotten more time in the official trailer than any other female.

I sense the watermelons do it for you. Perhaps the large oranges were not enough?

That's called marketing. Gaider has said that you don't even have to talk to her in the game.

Link?  Not that I don't believe you, I'd just like to see what he said.

To be honest, except for Morrigan and to a lesser extent Alistair I wasn't a huge fan of ANY of the companions from Origins. I liked some of them but I really could (and did) do without them in any particular playthrough. I think my problem was that largely visual; that is, you could recreate pretty much any character, companion or not, using the options in the character creator (in fact, my "true" Warden was pretty much a clone of Anora--I even had her in the same dress). So I'm happy that there are more unique looking characters in the second game, Isabela among them but also Flemeth, Aveline, Fenris, etc. I think it will add a lot to the characterization.

My point, relevant to this topic, is that I have a feeling we'll get a lot more attached to the characters in DA2 than we did in Origins/Awakening/etc. I agree that Morrigan was a great character (they were all well-written) but I'm looking forward to meeting the new ones. Although Isabela not so much; I may skip over her. But then, I don't consider Isabela the DA2 version of Morrigan, so I probably won't compare them.

Interesting. I guess she's more akin to Leliana then? Who's taking Morrigan's spot then?

Meeting Isabela in DA:O, I wasn't too fond of her, granted that she played a very minor part in the story, I still didn't like her. However, I do like her new appearance. But I'm not sure if I'll like her more than I did Morrigan. And I'm sure it's me just being biased, but I loved Morrigan. She was my favorite female in the game.

But I don't think it will hurt DA2. We just have be comfortable with the idea of having new characters and a new team. As foreign as the idea may be. But I'm excited, nonetheless. :)

I'm looking forward to it.  But I think Bioware is going to have a hard time outdoing themselves on this one.

I always kinda got the odd feeling that Flemeth was the female lead of DA2 Image IPB, after all she is in the Destiny trailer (a flash) and does the voice over for it, and even though we don't know what it is, it looks like she plays a pretty big part in DA2. Or maybe I think that because along with Morrigan shes one of my favourite characters in Dragon Age....

But I think Isabela won't be able to top Morrigan personally (suprise, suprise!) but that might just me being biased towards Morrigan.

I do agree with that. But I have faith in Bioware :D I will admit that I'll severely miss the characters from DA:O however. :crying:

Morrigan is imho an unique character. She's not like the other companion in DAO, because her role is going over DAO. She will probably have a major role in another DA game, so it's difficult to make another woman character at her level.

Isabela seems an interesting character to me....I cant judge Morrigan and Isabela now because obviously we know alot more about Morrigan.

But i am looking forward to Isabela's character more than i was Morrigan.

Yep. People will met Isabela and think, "She isn't b*tchy, verbally abusive, she doesn't second guess everything I do, and she won't dump me in the end. How can I romance a woman like this?!"

Morrigan and Alistair "spots" - as leading female and male characters - are taken by the two surviving Hawke's siblings.
To be more precise, a mage hawke gets Carver Alistair, a non-mage Hawke gets Morrigan Bethany.
This reffering to relevance in story, not personality or anything like that.

Of course almost everyone is going to side with Morrigan because they haven't played DA2 yet, once the game is released the tides may turn however.

the way you say it makes me think everyone wanted to wear a spiked collar that bore a tag reading "property of morrigan" on it....:D
