With how different DA:2 will be from DA:O I don't think one can really expect any of the companions to fill the same "leading man/woman" role that Allistair and Morrigan had in the original game. Why? Simply because Hawke has a voice, and therefore will take over the lead spot and focus of the individual scenes of the story.
If someone asked me point blank who I thought was the most memorable character in DA:O I'd have to say Loghain was, followed by Allistair and Morrigan. They carried the crucial scenes, they established the mood and the drama. My Warden simply felt like an observer an "imaginary friend" almost. Especially during the Landsmeet and the rallying speech before the final battle.
Contrast that to Mass Effect 2, Shepard is the show. Miranda can be seen as the game's "Morrigan" but I never felt that she was the central figure of a particular scene unless it was called for in the particular instance. It gave a very different vibe, one that I personally prefer although I know that some people prefer the DA:O/Kotor method. Whatever the case, Shepard was the leading wo/man of ME2, your supporting cast was the supporting cast. In DA:O it was the other way around which I think contributes to there being so much attachment towards Morrigan.
On top of having a compelling story, a great voice talent and a unique character look she would routinely steal the show from our silent protagonist, because we'd have no choice but to let her. Not that there was anything wrong with that. I don't feel Isabella will have quite the same opportunity open to her, but let's see how it turns out. After all Tali, Miranda, Mordin and company didn't exactly lose out on fans because they had a voiced lead with them.
