Tough choice.  Isabella is a bit skanky, but seems to have a sociable personality.  Morrigan isn't necessarily "skanky" per se, though she does sleep with you pretty easily, and her personality is pretty cold and off-putting.  Truth be told I don't find Isabella appealing in the least, so right now I will have to go with Morrigan as she seems to warm up overtime.

I found Morrigan to be as warm as a block of ice. I gave up on her.

The only thing I liked about Morrigan was that she had a (relatively) fleshed out backstory and personality. Personally, I liked Leliana better but just couldn't stand her voice actress- nice voice but jarring accent. I never clicked with Morrigan, but I have a feeling I will like Isabela just based on what we know about her. She's... fun.

Edit: I guess I should add that she's a SEXY SWASHBUCKLING PIRATE WOMAN, so I'm pretty inclined to like her from the get-go.

I hear you. Hope them Varric fans are doing that just for the fun of it and none of them will be 'seriously' heartbroken if Varric doesn't live up to their expectations.

He's a dwarf. By definition, he's awesome. Because dwarfness and awesomeness go hand by hand.
Besides, being written by Mary (the writer of the Sten), I know that regardless of how he comes out, he'll have well written dialog, probably peppered with wit. That's about all I ask from him.

Well, if others are along the same lines as well, there should be no problems. Let's just hope that's the case.

I'm more of less refering to her interactions with the player.  At first she was like "Let's have sex, but don't look me in the eyes.", and later she is like "Ok, you look me in the eyes, but don't breathe on me."  That's progress.  But seriously, she does warm up to the player a bit towards the end.

With how different DA:2 will be from DA:O I don't think one can really expect any of the companions to fill the same "leading man/woman" role that Allistair and Morrigan had in the original game. Why? Simply because Hawke has a voice, and therefore will take over the lead spot and focus of the individual scenes of the story.

If someone asked me point blank who I thought was the most memorable character in DA:O I'd have to say Loghain was, followed by Allistair and Morrigan. They carried the crucial scenes, they established the mood and the drama. My Warden simply felt like an observer an "imaginary friend" almost. Especially during the Landsmeet and the rallying speech before the final battle.

Contrast that to Mass Effect 2, Shepard is the show. Miranda can be seen as the game's "Morrigan" but I never felt that she was the central figure of a particular scene unless it was called for in the particular instance. It gave a very different vibe, one that I personally prefer although I know that some people prefer the DA:O/Kotor method. Whatever the case, Shepard was the leading wo/man of ME2, your supporting cast was the supporting cast. In DA:O it was the other way around which I think contributes to there being so much attachment towards Morrigan.

On top of having a compelling story, a great voice talent and a unique character look she would routinely steal the show from our silent protagonist, because we'd have no choice but to let her. Not that there was anything wrong with that. I don't feel Isabella will have quite the same opportunity open to her, but let's see how it turns out. After all Tali, Miranda, Mordin and company didn't exactly lose out on fans because they had a voiced lead with them.

you know going from one extreme of annoyance to the opposite one?

while Morrigan was always second guessing any morally wholesome decision you made Aveline will be all paladin like second guessing every even slightly gray moral decision you make...

Isabela will fill the role of Leliana only with more sexiness and lovelier curves and dark skin and.......and.......and....stooooooone -swoons-

Morrigan was great in her own way and Isabela could be to, hopefully though Isabela won't be like Im leaveing you never follow me at the end, that kind of ruined it for me since my first wardern romanced her and then died because the whole god baby thing seemed a bit fishy

Aveline is actually described as being practical and not valuing honor when lives are at stake.

Honor is very subjective and changes from culture to culture and even among subcultures of the same culture..what is an honorable act to me might be blasphemy to the Templars.

For all we know her moral compass might point in a very high and mighty direction in spite of what her "culture" considers honor

When I think of "lead" role, I think of it like in a movie.
In this light, I expect Bethany (or Carver, for that matter) to be a support character.
Though Bethany seems like she needs some support herself in the first place.

Isabela is definitely being used as the female lead.  In the promo shots, she's standing with Hawke just like the love interest in an action movie would be.  She was featured in all the trailers.  Plus Bethany won't even be in the game if you play a mage.

And, for the size of her melons, Bethany is pretty perky.

If that was an option and Oghren cheered you on, I wouldn't have cared too much about my choice there.

I think I will reserve my comments on Isabela until the game is released. They changed her look, so who knows what else Bioware changed about her.

If she isn't the lead it would suprise me they seem to at least in the trailers to push that relationship hard showing her the most besides Hawke.

You don't even have to talk to Isabela, so she's probably not a lead. Maybe marketing people thinks the female lead isn't attractive enough, so they use Isabela. It's like how marketing never uses the male lead because he has no boobies. But that doesn't stop him being a lead/ Alistair is more important to DAO and has more lines of dialog than Morrigan.

I agree about the Alistar part but for diffrent reasons it seems bioware always advertises a male character pc not a female one, you could be right though who knows despite being only two months away there is still much hidden about Dragon Age 2

Isabella is going to be talking to me, maybe even flirting to me, and I might flirt back. But, in my mind, I will be thinking GTFO skank and where the hell is my Morgs?
