I am developing a serious hate for Varric
You have no idea how much i dislike the dwarves.
I could not stand Oghren and i really can't stand Varric.
I cannot really say that for me the problem is that he is a dwarf........
Thirded on this...and it has NOTHING to do with the dwarf thing...me and crimzon pretty much have the same reasons where it concerns varric...I remember him saying his reasons in a another thread and that describes my thoughts about him to a T.
about him being an unreliable narrator?
There was more than that...but that is apart of it...I mean seriously...he is the ONE character so far whom I can almost gurrantee won't see much party time unless it's to do his personal quests...which there had better be some good loot in them....

I think it says more about how the race is presented in the game than it does about the race itself. I mean, if Dwarves are presented in a way that most of them seem pretty similar to each other, then it's hard not to think of them as Dwarves. Practical, earthy, tough, often ale-swilling, often miners, etc. There are differences in Dwarven personalities, to be sure (Dagna strikes me as very un-Dwarven, and maybe that's why I like her), but for the most part they share a lot of traits.TriviaAeducan wrote...
I like dwarves. They're just so cool especially in the DA universe. Sigrun, Dagna, Gorim and pre-DAA Oghren are truly awesome. Personality-wise. I just feel that hatin' on Varric just because he's a dwarf is as bad as hatin' on Asians or Latinos.
Overall, though, I would just stress the part about them being fictional. Real-life human races have not been created in a writer's mind and presented in a certain way. I don't think of all Asians being the same, nor Latinos nor anyone else. Because they are actual people. Humans, in fact, who, as we just established, are notable for their diversity of both genetics and personality.
And although I love Aimo's artwork, let's just say I'm not going to be swayed visually and leave it at that or I'll just get myself in (more) trouble. Suffice it to say for now that I like 'em tall.

That would be it...ontop of his voice actor who although is good...really makes it hard to like varric because of the the fact that he totally embellishes on the whole fangirl thing....

And WTF infected cuts? I can't even.
As for my party, I always have at least two rogues. It'll just come down to who I end up liking best in the game. I don't have enough information to say I'll definitely love both enough to keep in my party at all times (though Varric will *probably* be a permanent staple). I never thought I'd see the day when a dwarf would be called fangirl bait over dark tragic past elf man and Scottish exiled prince man

Woosh, the joke missed your head apparently.
Rabid fangirl scribbles how cute.
The fangirls idolizing a pixel character doesn't mean anything i would feel the same about him if they hated him or liked him. I just don't think dwarves make great heroes (Oh i'm sure i'll get flamed for that) its my honest opinion on it leave the hero thing to the humans or elves.
He can be at the homebase to drink afterwards i suppose but he gets a toy weapon.
And a baby seat.

The fact that Varric is being described as fangirl bait gives me the slightest twinge of hope, hahah.
Honestly? You deserve whatever blowback you get from that comment because it's ridiculous, especially considering that in many playthroughs of DA:O, a dwarf is the Hero of Ferelden.Follow Me on Twitter wrote...

Lol, Calla. I find it hilarious and kind of awesome. I'd like to think we had a hand in helping him gain his current "fangirl bait" status. *cackles*

Well they're hardly just scribbles. But yes, they are unbelievably cute - so glad you agree.Follow Me on Twitter wrote...

Surely this is a function of writing talent rather than anything else? It would have to be a very poor writer who could not make a single heroic character out of all the possibilities that an entire race has to offer.Follow Me on Twitter wrote...

They have the largest city, an interesting culture, and a political infastructure that makes one get involved and enjoy politics. The worst part about the dwarfs here are the god forsaken deep roads. Even then, ozzammar is still a blast.
And in any case, Varric seems like a fun character. The idea of a story teller is a fascinating on. Plus he named his crossbow, that automatically makes him awesome.
Now granted, Seb is an awesome looking character. BUt we've seen it all before. Hell he's pretty much a psychotic fusion of HN, Howe and Alistar roled into one scottish archer.

Hmmm...who do i want to have my back when i fight this dragon.... -eyes dart between Seb or Varric-
Varric: Put me in coach i wont let you down
Me: Alright son make me proud -throws varric a jersey-
Varric: I wont let you down -rushes in-
-Dragon backs up and steps on varric-
