Will a game with a minimum system requirement of an AMD Athlon 64 run on a computer with an Athlon II X2?

I have googled this and all I find are specs and such that I don't understand.  I haven't bought the computer yet, so I can't try Can You Run It.

In short so i don't confuse you with technical jargon. The AMD Athlon 64 is a single core processor, Athlon II x2 is a duel core and much newer. The latter is more powerful than the first one and can run much more than the first. Many games minimum specs list single core processors. A duel core with a decent clock speed will run any game just fine.

Just to muddy the waters: there are dual core Athlon 64s as well. Usually referred to as Athlon 64 x2, but not always.

I have one of those somewhere, though I seem to recall its memory bandwidth is much lower than the Athlon II.  I got it so I didn't need to buy all the additional supporting gubbins like new motherboard, memory and stuff but even after all this time I'm not totally convinced that it was a good decision.
