ME2 male shep sounds like Mayor Quimby of the Simpsons. I know his VA can do better, come on!

Same as others have said; it's mostly the JH loyalists and feminists who end up doing the majority of the bashing. In reality, both actors do a fine job, and both have their strengths and weaknesses.

I prefer Meer, tbh, because he just seems to perform his lines effortlessly and consistently. A calm threat is always better than one seething with hate and camp. His paragon lines blend well with his renegade lines, and his decision to play both sides closer to neutral was a good call.

Am I the only who thought that Hale didn't even change her voice at all in ME2?

I don't get it either. I do believe that most of the bashing is done by Hale fans who can't get over the fact that female Shepard is not played as much as male Shepard.

IMHO Meer is much, much better than Hale, who is way to emotional and her overly emotional/dramatic delivery sounds incredibly stupid to me at times, it often makes me stop playing the game for a while. Although in the end, she is not that bad, it's just that Meer is flat out better.
Meer sounds like a military officer - he is the main reason why I have A LOT more male Shepards than female Shepards (over 20 male Sheps and only 3 female Shepards).

Wait, so DudeShep and Mark Meer is bashed because they are played more than FemShep?

As for the "You haven't played Mass Effect until you play FemShep" comments around the forums and even a gaming site, I find those to be quite misleading. I have played as FemShep as well, and I was unimpressed.

Meer does a good job as Shepard I say. It may be tiny bit stiff on a rare occasion in ME (1), but I still find it better than Hale does. I get irritated every time when she talks soft and under her breath, like she's forcing it. Meer to me does it in a more natural way.

I like MaleSheps voice. He's consistent and I like his delivery. And Meer can bring the emotion in the right places, like in Tali's loyalty mission.

I suppose because I feel he is very stiff and inexpressive and he has this tendency to ruin scenes for me. I think Hale is a bit better, but not insanely better.

Since it would be unfair to make sweeping generalizations, some lines that demonstrate what I mean with Meer:

"We couldn't have done this without you, Tali." - ME1. Wince.

"We're lucky to have someone with your skills, Kelly." - ME2. Cringe.

"Calm down, Liara, I was only joking." - ME1. Cringe/wince.

Anyone else have any cringe-worthy moments with Meer?

Hmm, not really. Although after hearing Meer in ME2 and then listen to some of the above mentioned I sometimes think: 'Hmm, that's not very good. Oh well...'. In my opinion Hale has way more moments where I have to cringe.

Hale seems to sound more natural overall. Meer seems to sound like someone who is physically on a stage, reading lines. It is not that Hale is outstandingly moving; rather, it is that she tends to be able to make me feel more immersed in the game.

I love these topics. Next, we should argue about whether more Meers can voice act on the head of a pin than Hales.

Like said earlier, I feel Mark's voice is more consistent than Hales on the dialogue wheel.

Mordin sounds great.
Jacob sounds great.
Jacob's dad sounds great.
Thane sounds great.
Garrus sounds great.
Grunt sounds great.
Joker is awesome.
EDI sounds like a robot.

I think most of the fanboi hate is because MM doesnt quite nail the renegade lines the same way JH does. JH nails about 90% of the renegade lines spot on, whereas MM only hits about 75%. That said, the opposite is true of Paragon. MM hits about 90% of them spot on, where JH only hits about 75%.

What? I found the complete opposite. Tried playing a femshep once but everytime I picked a line that was renegade or "tough" I cringed and had to quit the game.

Also, this thread is similiar to this one: social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/105/index/5595706

There was absolutely nothing wrong with those lines.

Some cringe worthy material from Meer is:

"How are you doing Kelly!?"

From Hale? Every single time she says the word "Collectors". Godamn, she puts so much emphasis on that word it makes me cringe up into the fetal position. I just can't handle the over emphasis she puts into all of her dialogue, it's like a parody of an action hero.

I think the people who think Hale is significantly better are lunatics. They're both competent, and meer does renegade lines much more convincingly imo.

Why does everyone have to go down on JH fans? Just because we think that Hale did a better job as femShep it doesn't mean that we have to be categorized as loony feminists or fanboys. Honestly, everyone have different preferences when they play their Shepard.

I just happen to like female Shepard better, and yes I would like female Shepard to get more marketing attention.

BUT it's not because I feel that Meer does a crap job, I just happen to be very tired of Sheploo's face.

I like Mark Meer. He does a very good voice for Commander Shepard. I don't know what the big deal is if there is one at all against him being the VA for Shep.

I like Meer, though I prefer him when picking Renegade options. Dude sounds like a natural smartass. Hence, why I tend to lean more to Renegade when using my main Shep.

Hale, I find is perfect for a Paragon but I just don't really buy into the Renegade route. Her voice doesn't click in that role, imo.

I have nothing against Mark or his voice acting in general, but ManShep just comes over as dull and monotone for the most part and I much prefer FemShep.

Best thing that ever happened on one of my ME1 playthroughs, was when I quickly switched from playing FemShep to ManShep. It didn't switch propperly and I ended up with ManShep with FemSheps voice. Had me in hysterics, but I was never able to re-create the glitch afterwards.

Yes there was.

... I actually think I can see where this is going. So, in the interests of preemptivity:

Yes there was yes there was yes there was yes there was yes there was yes there was yes there was yes there was yes there was. Ha!

Meer's VA is awesome , he says the renegade lines perfectly. I tried a playthrough as Femshep , but Hale just sounds kinda bored to me .
