Should really cut down on the weights, the lads have started calling me "no neck" but it just feels so good to start the day with a quick workout and it does help at work with all the lifting and shifting.

Peanut M&M's and sci-fi TV shows. Seriously, I'll sit and watch Sci-fi TV I hate if nothing else is on-- Like Lost or Star Trek Voyager.

Are there any addictions you have that you suffer from?  Being that I'm the creator of this topic I figure I'll start off by sharing my addiction problems.

I'm addicted to exercise, or more specifically I'm addicted to running.  You may think this isn't a bad thing since running is generally good for your health, increases cardiac output, keeps you slim etc but let me explain.  I also enjoy resistance training but combined with excessive cardio vascular training the effects are milidly catabolic(breaks down muscle).

I'm still excessively strong and can 1 RM bench press 260 lbs but I can't help but feel that my addiction to running is holding me back a little bit.

Running to me is like the fast food of exercise.  It is so convenient yet so effective and doing a nice 8-10 mile run can give you such an endorphine rush.  However, I used to get this endorphine rush from just weight training but now I'm finding that I can only get it from long distance running and I have to run longer and longer to get the same effects.  If I go more than 2 days without cardiovascular training I start to get withdrawal symptoms.  I become depressed, irritable and I feel like I'm losing all of my power.

I do enjoy running but I'm well aware that I'm borderline over-exercising and that it could eventually have a counter-productive effect on my workout regimen.  I'm worried I'll turn into one of those tooth pick marathon runners who have no muscle whatsoever.
That being said I know if I can cheat death as I have many times then I can overcome this obstacle in my life.

Also, I'm somewhat addicted to coffee though I wouldn't say I feel like I absolutely need it.  Still, I enjoy drinking a lot of black coffee.

Be weary.  "Exercise high" is what you are addicted to.  Exercise high produces natural endorphins in the body that make you feel good.  Opiates mimic this.  Runners high is a very similar high to Opiate addiction, so you are at great risk for opiate dependency and/or addiction.  I would be extremely careful to avoid all forms of opiates.  They are usually painkillers, but can also be used for cough.

That's interesting, I haven't researched the effects of opiates on the brain but if the high sensation is similar to an exercise high then I can see why I may be especially susceptible to such an addiction.

Luckily I have the common sense to avoid drugs. I drink one glass of wine per week(sometimes a fine British ale) and I'm a non-smoker.
