Recently, a friend and I purchased NWN2 off Steam - that is, the NWN2: Platinum version.

We are each able to play single-player mode without incident, or even server mode with nobody but the host.  However, when both of us try to play together, I face regular crashes.  These happen during all sorts of moments: logging in (which happens the most often), standing in hallways, during conversations.  Oddly, it doesn't seem to happen during combat.

We have tried hosting it on four different computers - three on my network, one on my friend's.  This was done using the nwn2server.exe that comes from the installation, and in several instances, simply using the "New game" option from the multiplayer menu, from the main game.  

The constant crashes are the main problem.  However, on occasion, especially when loading through the "New game" option, there is significant input lag.  When my friend hosted, my mouse clicks would seemingly resolve on my end, but no action would be taken - I could click on the ground and see the indication of it happening, but my character might not move for 30-60 seconds.  Usually, it was much lower than that, but it sometimes happened.
 
The games are updated to the most recent version availanle (1.023).  We are using no mods, overrides or hakpaks, or anything of that sort.  Just a vanilla install.  We have played the original campaign where this happened, and SoZ, the latter of which we were unable to progress from the main deck of the ship due to the constant problems.

Checking the error log file, here are a couple logs of errors:

I'm really not sure what to do about this, and it is immensely frustrated. We excitedly purchased the game together, but have barely been able to get along, and any of that progress has been with a tremendous pain tolerance. Any ideas? I found a lot of posts about crashes, but not a lot recently, and none about the Steam version in particular.

It worked fine for about a day, on the Storms of Zehir pack. Made it to level six. Now trying to play it another day, it crashes upon attempting to login a character. I have no idea.
