Will there be other similarities, such as hair and eye color or facial stucture?
Essentially it's this: there is a different appearance for any family members in the game based on one of the base appearance sliders for your PC (I can't remember if it's skin tone or the default face). They don't simply change tone/hair color verbatim, as that could lead to some really weird appearances. The idea is for them to be believable as blood relatives, so their facial structure and hairstyle will be different as well as their skin tone.
Meaning, yes, your Bethany or Carver might in fact look quite different from what you've seen.

Hair color, IIRC. Don't know about eye color. Not facial structure.
I couldn't find any info specifying this, thanks.

Okay, thank you for clearing that up. That's a really cool feature, in DA:O I usually base what my characters look like off of their family members, if any. Having it be more or less the other way around is quite preferable.

Hairstyle? Does that mean black Carver has a 'fro? And Bethany cornrows?

So that means there are, say, 5-10 base appearances you can choose from, and your relatives will be made to look like they're related to whichever base appearance you choose, not counting what modifications you might do to it afterwards?

That is super neat. I love it when you incorporate some of those subtle features....
... so theoretically, my Bethany could end up with the so-called "herp derp" look that Carver has been teased of having......

Yes, I think so. Like I said, I can't remember if the family is based of the "base appearance" you choose or the skin tone. Whichever it is, there is a version of your family to match. The one you've seen only exists if you select the default.

It is better to have a few models designed by the Bioware artists. Than have the computer itself try to adjust the sliders to make them match. Which could lead to montrosities.
But it is a bit mindblowing. For the last few months we have seen screenshots of Bethany and Carver and accepted that is what they look like.
There could be some alternate version of Carver that looks really handsome and intelligent.

I was pretty concerned about this since I wanted to have my F!Hawke be a chocolate girl, nice to know we won't have a Cousland situation where it was very obvious who didn't belong...lol

But if you make a custom Hawke, will the family member's appearances be different every time you make a custom Hawke? At least facial structure/feature wise- or are there certain sort of presets for the family member's faces that get triggered when you do X, Y or Z when making your custom Hawke?
Ha, its bad enough trying to make a custom PC face look good in game. I'd hate to make a good looking Hawke only to have the family members come out looking like deformed freaks

And yeah going "YES Hawke finally is good looking!" just to realize your family looks like they beat with an ugly stick will be a disappointment.
