I always wanted siblings in real life. This is going to be awesome.

Sounds like it's even cooler than Fallout 3; that only changed your dad's coloring, IIRC. This will actually have an effect on the face--there will still be presets, if I'm getting it right, but the genetic similarity is geared to be believable and will be fairly reactive to what you do, causing my fangirl heart to squee endlessly.

I love it when you squee.

Meaning, yes, your Bethany or Carver might in fact look quite different from what you've seen.
That sounds pretty cool.

I find the image of Wynne squeeing to be quite unsettling.

Speaking from experience, this is VERY true.

Well thank you. You ruined this blissful revelation by dumping a truckload of reality on it.

I'm assuming this may be one of reasons as to why Bethany and Carver do not have their own official character pages, despiting knowing about them for a long while now? Their appearances are dependent on how our Hawke may look.

No. As I said, there are several set appearances for your family based on one appearance setting you choose for your PC. They do not change beyond that.
This is, I should add, completely subject to change or even cutting. I'm simply describing how I remember the system working at the moment (and, god forbid, I may even be wrong on how it's set up-- details tend to change on the systems stuff without notice).
Very interesting concept, but also a risky move.
For example if it works as you say you can have this situation: you choose "default B" appearance, then customize it greatly, so that it becomes almost a "default F" face, but since the familiy appearance will be setted to "B" things will not match (more or less depending on the case). Skin tone is probably more cautious as approach but naturally will have less fidelity. I guess you considered positives/drawbacks (or will do so) and decide what it is better (from a standpoint of positives/drawbacks). Or maybe you included more than one instance that make the set change (as for example a default appearance AND skin tone, or similar)
Granted that anyway it will be surely a step-up from DAO, since there was nothing of the sort in that game, neither slightly, so I guess it doesn't matter so much. Just making you notice (and I'm sure you know already) that if it is *exactly* (and naturally it could not be so, as you yourself specified) as you say it could lead to some incongruences for people that like to edit much those defaults.
Or it could either be that appearances now works as sort of "race structures" differently from DAO. In this case I guess the character creator doesn't have the power to customize the character so much as to change totally the way a race is structured, and so it could be fine (still risky, but all in all fine).

You probably wouldn't if you met me in real life. It's funny how different people seem when you meet them in person. Apparently the fallacious idea that I am cute seems to be plausible enough when you meet me as opposed to reading what I write. No doubt a trick of the light or something.shepard_lives wrote...

Nah, despite how I might sound on these forums, in real life I am goofy, smiley, and a little bit shy.
I am definitely going to be doing the same--I want the family experience, and I kinda like what people call "derp" Carver. He reminds me of Ferris Bueller's friend, who I thought was adorable growing up. In the end I'll try to strike a balance and find a face I like that works pretty well with the family faces.Tamyn wrote...
Interesting. So I could still have a family
that looks nothing like my Hawke save for skin tone. I plan to
thoroughly tweak whatever preset face I pick.
Dude, Han and Leia! Not every conflict is negative! Sometimes you clash with somebody precisely because deep down in your heart, you KNOW that your empathy is too strong and you let people manipulate you, or you KNOW that you are often too coldly logical and you need to learn to be more compassionate.MerinTB wrote...
I guess I'm giving up until I see it in execution.
"Rivalry romance" remains an oxymoron to me.
An arrogant person often knows that they are overly confident, and having someone to poke holes in their ego can make them very angry at first, but then when they finally get angry enough to stop holding in what made them arrogant in the first place--usually a form of low self confidence, ironically--sometimes the dam bursts. Sometimes the one person they think they hate is the one person who truly wants to understand why that quality irritates them so much. The one person they feel determined to explain everything to.
What's unhealthy is liking the feeling of having your opinions beaten down, being forced to accept 100% of someone's point of view. That's basically the opposite of this, where it's a mutual clash which slowly ends in understanding; the natural and organic realization that it's not so cut and dried as one person being totally right.
The best relationships are built between people who have things to teach each other. Qualities that run so deep they will be with you for the rest of your life, not just ten years, add up to who you are and what you need. A person who is your opposite can keep you from going overboard. That's just how it works. Han pokes holes in Leia's slightly pompous demeanor, making her want to stand up for herself, which is good for her. Leia makes him want to behave and be more than just a wild, carefree rogue. Chaos and Order nudge each other and argue until their faces are blue and then release all the stress they built up from the argument in a good round of sex and then realize that the other person was actually about half-right all along, because a mix of Chaos and Order is better than an excess of either.
Ah, well. Trust me, it's awesome. Or just watch Much Ado About Nothing and look at Beatrice and Benedick.

so...........I can understand changing my family's skin tone to match Hawke's.......
but...........will my family all have the same hair color as my Hawke's??
so.........if I made.......say........a young looking white haired Hawke ( like Fenris )........then Bethany and Carver will have white hair, too?
i'm a bit confused on that.............
