ok mass effect 1 , WAS AWESOME....why did bioware change everything in mass effect 2?....im almost done mass effect 2 and right now im saying wow i think im going to pop in mass effect 1 because it was FUN...im playing mass effect 2 because i like the story line thats it...but the gameplay is just shoot and collect credits...like i said the story line is awesome..BUT the gameplay is not unless you prefir an action game then rpg...what happened? is it to appeal to the general population to increase sales.................if i was bioware id keep it the same .,..but its a business so i guess FUN is less important then revenue...anyways im probably going to get bashed on this....and its probably been talked about before....Image IPB....

Because the vocal, whiney, Xbox shootemup minority outweighed the silent majority who have been Bioware fans since Baldurs Gate.

You're complaining about ME2 and yet praising the storyline?

Da ****?

I don't know why people think why mass effect 2's gameplay was dumbed down. It's gameplay is far superior to mass effect 1's. All the gameplay needs is more rpg elements to mix into it, with that being said I would say mass effect 1's gameplay was more dumb IMO. Like every rpg you end up being a god by the end so you would justnstay out of cover blasting everyone to bits, at least in me2 you weren't a god and had to play smart right till the end of the game.

Thoughthe story being brilliant is another story. Me1 was far better in that respect

Do you wear a neck brace occasionally to keep your head from lolling over due to all that big headed self-righteousness you display?

I agree that some things that BioWare changed about the combat system isn't what I'd prefer, but generally speaking I find the combat to be far more enjoyable than ME1. However, the changes to the combat system was hardly because of the fact that it was catering to an xbox crowd, especially since the original Mass Effect came out as an xbox exclusive in any case.

i grew up playing rpg's, and the occasional 3ps too. mass effect 1 was easily my favorite game when it came out, but i prefer me2. besides the main story storyline, me2 is better in every way. the third game is set to be the best scifi rpg/3ps ever, and i patiently await it.

And that kids, is an RPG purist. Part of why RPGs haven't really changed since Baldur's gate.

Seriously, the gameplay was ****ing amazing, it's the story that's ****ing changed with the counsel turning on Shepard even though he saved their ass if you chose that option and all that crap. ME3's story was supposed to be ME2's story but Bioware blew it.

I think the OP might be confusing storyline with gameplay and vice versa.

I do not think the OP is confusing ME1 and ME2. He says he dislikes ME2's gameplay because it is shooting and picking up credits and that's it, which is true of ME2's gameplay but not ME1's.

I am forced to believe he truly does like ME2's story better than ME1's and ME1's combat better than ME2's.

My mind has just asploded.

Why can't an RPG game have decent gameplay? Usually in an RPG the story is the main focus, combat is also a big part of it but to most RPG fans, it takes a back seat. Y can't an RPG have a great storyline and great gameplay that can rival FPS and TPS? I hate it when people complain that their "dumbing" the game, just cause its shooter aspect has been improved. The point of a sequel is to A) Continue the storyline and B) to improve from the previous game, so their not gonna keep it the same quality as the original when they have a year or 2 to improve on it. Expect big changes from ME2 to ME3 also, both RPG and shooter changes. And yes people will be complaining about them as well.

Not so much as a self-righteous, RPG purist, as someone who has seen far too many good games suffer due to Xbox limitations.

ME1 combat killed me with two things: basically, all the weapons usage was same (snipe with shotgun, yeah) and wagon of health of enemies (biotic team Wrex/Kaidan(or Liara)/biotic Shep... spam Lift and Singularity, then shoot. Repeat ad nauseam).

ME2: really different classes, really different enemies. Fun!

Story wise it's more complicated, but ME1 had better main plot and character development/dialogues, while ME2 has more spectacular sidequests and more people in squad.

Ah, and for healing nostalgia to cRPGs I usually launch Dragon Age.

Except that the original Mass Effect for the PC was an XBOX port, whereas Mass Effect 2 for the PC was developed from scratch, so this really doesn't support your argument.

@encarmine: Its not hate towards the Xbox, it does have its place in bringing games to a wider audience, which gives the devs greater income to put into their next big thing. What I dislike however, is that serious gamers who go along and spend a good deal of cash in getting a gaming rig to smoothly run a game at max settings, get treated the same as a casual gamer who thinks a console is the bees knees.
That dislike is directed at Microsoft more than anything else, as it is their insistance that their users dont suffer because of the MS's ability to deliver quality goods.

edit: @Phaedon: Just think of how much better it would have been if it had been PC only. Hi-res Garrus from the start, and from there it would only improve.  :D

The OP asked why "Bioware changed everything"?

This was Bogsnot's response:

Because the vocal, whiney, Xbox shootemup minority outweighed the silent majority who have been Bioware fans since Baldurs Gate.

I personally think that ME2 was a better RPG, but I still think that it's funny to call the RPG elitists as "non-vocal,non-whiney and silent"

ok mass effect 1 , WAS AWESOME.

Most people disagree, which is why they changed the stuff. The oldschool RPG mechanics driving modern third person shooter combat went about as well as mixing sodium and water. The game suffered from a critical diversity failure in side missions, and there were numerous minor issues (terrible inventory, useless item progression with the I - X versions, lots of bugs, biotic cheesing). The Mako was a stand-out problem, although people did not really articulate what was wrong with it well until after it had already been removed in ME2.

I think it's pretty safe to say that most people who loved ME1 loved it in spite of many of it's features, rather than because of them. The idea of Mass Effect was better than the actual product itself, but the vision did manage to shine through at several points which made people like it more.

Anyway, they made a lot of changes for ME2. If you spend some time around here you'll discover that it's not all sunshines and roses and it cops a lot of flak for some of these changes. Some of the changse were good and some were bad, but the general consensus is that it was, in a holistic sense, a better product.
