Hey Stephen Hawking... this game crushed it in sales. CRUSHED it. The game is fun, you are in the minority. You want to go play Baldur's Gate? Hit up gog.com and download it, but you are delusional if you think the millions (MILLIONS) of people who either have already played or will soon play (on PS3) ME2 don't know what a fun game is.
This is such a stupid and tired argument now. Go out and search for ME2 and "Game of the Year" and you'll find hits left and right. The ratings were sky high, the sales were sky high, the reviews were sky high.
This isn't 1997, and don't be such a pratt. You are in the minority... and no, we aren't all delusional...

Agree or disagree, this point of emphasis was clearly discernible and a legitimate concern for some people. I hope now, with ME2 effectively showcasing the improved shooting mechanics that ME3 can focus more on their greatest achievement: storytelling mastery.

To OP - The gameplay feels nearly the same as in doing side missions (without having the mako and landing on less planets) and talking to people. If you're talking about action, then everybody I've heard from has enjoyed the revamping and called it less aggravating (Besides no inventory or them adding thermal clips, which I doubt would increase any profits what so ever). Gathering credits and resources only makes it more of an rpg than a shooter (Not to mention to use them to upgrade your equipment). I don't see much shooters that do much of that.

Problem is, there are only so many Baldur's Gate games. And anything new gets "hollywoodized", so, oldschool players are left out.Phaelducan wrote...

Because the vocal, whiney, Xbox shootemup minority outweighed the silent majority who have been Bioware fans since Baldurs Gate.
Also, just like ME2 is better then ME1, BG2 is better then BG1. Little something called change, as not everybody is living in the nineties. Besides, ME was originally xbox exclusive anyway.

The oldschool RPG mechanics driving modern third person shooter combat went about as well as mixing sodium and water.
Provided you properly observe safety precautions, I see nothing wrong with mixing sodium and water. It's quite entertaining, in fact.

Naw man it was Shoot-shoot and turn crap into omni-gel for an hour. Clearly that's superior.

I really want to see the effect of our choices from Me2 in Me3, before I start passing judgement on the story. If we see all our surviving squadmembers return with full roles, along with fully fleshed out stories, then it will be a groundbreaking feat and give the story of Me2 a LOT of weight. If most of them are cut regardless, and we are given new squaddies then the entire story will feel like a gigantic waste of time.
Having played ME2 again recently I tend to agree with stickmanhenry's sentiment.
I'm going to try as hard as I can not to get my hopes up for ME3 as I did with ME2, I'm slapping down my imagination each time it tries to come up with what ifs and maybes for ME3. I'm merely excited about seeing my main FemShep fighting the fight of her life - no matter what that ends up being. If I keep my expectations low, and simple, then fingers crossed I should be pleasantly surprised.
I just have to avoid character reveals, trailers, and indepth interviews for the next 12 months or so!! Oh god this will be hard.

Oh yes. Gather companions and kill the bad guy.
ME2 was, IMO, not an RPG but simply an amusing shoot 'em up game. Since it would seem many features from ME2 is reused in DA2, silly class and weapon-restrictions and third person narrative being the most obvious, I doubt I'll consider DA2 an RPG either.

Yep, omni-gelling everything I wasn't wearing added a real layer of depth and immersion that made ME1 so superior as an RPG.Jigero wrote...

You simply think it wasn't because it significantly limited your ability to roleplay the character you created in ME1.

Just take a look at this forum and see all the vocal whiney RPG elitists minority. Just check EVERY SINGLE SITE AND POLL IN EXISTENCE to see that most say ME2 > ME1.
Seriously RPG purists are biggest whiners I've ever seen. Who cares what genre it is as long as it's awesome as ME2

If you want a more traditional RPG play DAO, and while I really did like that game, great story and all I find myself struggling to complete it a second time.
Yeah ok ME2 was dumbed down a bit, but for good reason, Yes they overdid it but hopefully ME3 will restore the balance a bit whilst delivering an awesome story.
