But even that wasn't as evil as Ghost and Goblins

****ing game would start you at the beginning of the stage if you didn't get a checkpoint.  But even then you had limited lives.

Its funny how people took the troll bait and started arguing, also I am just pointing out its these so called "rpg purists" that start these topics how come people can't disscuss a game pro's and con's without getting into other people's throats. Personally I thought the gameplay in me2 was great mix in some of the elements of me1 and you got a great game. Sheesh why do some people have to turn this into who has the biggest dick contest. =_=

Both ME1 and ME2 were amazing. I did miss the items and inventory aspects of ME1 a bit because it felt like there was a little less to the game. I felt the same way about Jade Empire, although I loved that game too. That's about the worst thing I could say about ME2, was the loss of an expansive inventory. It's kind of the job of some people to resist the change, and the job of others to embrace it. While I am not actively engaged in either struggle, I have reasons for pulling in both directions in various aspects.

All in all, I finished ME2 and thought.. "Wow, that was awesome." But I also wished a few things hadn't changed, while enjoying a few that did. I think it's always going to be like that, and expecting the planets to align in just the right way to appease you completely is selfish. If I ever get to the point where I simply stop playing a BioWare game because it is so far from my ideal, I won't care anymore and I'll simply play something else. If this happens to enough people, BioWare will recognize and react accordingly.

Unless this happens, however, we should all just realize we play these games for fun. If they weren't fun, we would stop playing them. It would seem then, with sales and popularity at an all-time high, that they are pretty fun. Isn't that enough?

:)

It's one thing to post constructive criticism and another to post 'ZOMG ME2 not an RPG', 'I have never played COD/HALO, but they suck so I'll compare ME2 to them'.

Also, why everyone says that ME2 didn't have an inventory is beyond me.

The inventory system in ME2 was drastically reduced. It was one of the primary changes between ME1 and ME2. You dispute this?

It was the fact that they split the interface in two and made them in-world interactive objects that weren't explicitly labeled "LOOK AT ME! I'M YOUR INVENTORY" that confused people, along with the fact that only Shep had the armor half of the inventory and everyone else just got some outfits (which of course don't count). Also, by making all upgrades apply to everything permanently (which is apparently a bad thing) and making you purchase some of them by decrementing some additional integers that weren't labeled "Credits", it made all those items stop being REAL items.

Although your post did remind me of the inventory conflict, I did not wish to reply to it. ME1's inventory was, for all intents and purposes, split into ME2's inventory and the research terminal. Saying that there is no inventory in ME2 is simply wrong.

Well, I suppose because I never said it had 'no' inventory I am not wrong then. It was drastically reduced, and all party outfits were static. There was just less there, and my only intent was to illustrate that it was one of the very, very few things I didn't like about the ME1-ME2 transition.

Less? Maybe, complete lack of inventory? Heck no.

Weapon selection? Check.

Armour customization? Check.

Upgrades? Check.

Bothgames are phenomenal, but it seems as if the combat in ME2 is what Bioware wanted ll along. Think back to how much of a pain it was fighting boss fights and doing sidequests without the solid mechanics tht were present in ME2.

Mass2 lacked in many departmenst: main plot, party banter, a sense of continuous experience (removal of elevators, addition of mission complete screen, pop-up cover areas, no decontamination sequence), party banter and *some* RPG elements, like more believable space/combat suits for the crew, more moddable weapons and status for said weapons, a few more powers, and party banter (no matter how many times I say it, it's never enough)...

That said, gameplay wise (i.e. actual combat), it was insanely superior.

More responsive, more tactical and more fun. I love planning a charge, blast everyone in the face (you know, hitting where I'm pointing at instead of depending on a lucky invisible dice roll) and clear an entire area in a few seconds.

edit: @Phaedon: Just think of how much better it would have been if it had been PC only. Hi-res Garrus from the start, and from there it would only improve.  :D

I would not have been able to play this "improved" hypothetical PC-only Mass Effect, and thus wouldn't have purchased it on release day. Ultimately, that's what counts at Bioware, making money. They are a business.

And, deny it all you like, but you are clearly an elitist. Everything you prefer is gold-plated and smells like bakery fresh cinnamon rolls, while everybody else is a "whiner."

Exactly, people are so tied to stripping stuff off dead bodies like some sort of ghoul and then having to find (and talk about immersion breakers) sell and buy crap from a guy on your own ship that the very similar but streamlined process fried their brains. If instead of Rifle Update II they'd had to buy Mattock version II that improved the gun 10%  they'd not be all hurt and crying.

I enjoyed both games equally as much. When I first played ME2 I was a little surprised (actually I remember complementing them on changing so much and it still working in principle.) Some may complain about the lack of scale to the HUB worlds, but I have heard equally as much talking about having to walk too far to get to where you are going in ME1. I can understand her arguments about the inventory, but all of it is pointless. I cannot see why people dislike the combat in ME2, it was great. It isn't ME1, but I would be worried if there were no changes. The devs have said that they are working on keeping the combat of ME2 with the RPG elements and scale of ME1. I hope that will be good enough for everyone.

Ok, I must say...Mass 1 DID wow me the first time more than 2, HOWEVER, Mass 2 improved upon the first x 1000%. Mass 2 really is a better game, BUT, I agree that the story was nowhere near where it could have been, exploration could have been better, and variation could have been implemented regarding weapons, armor, and teammate clothing. If Mass 3 can just improve in these areas, oh, including party banter and what-not, THEN it will be amazing.

One more thing: Music and atmosphere NEED to come back....

THEN it will be amazing.
