That's kind of my point. A warrior and mage can easily surpass the Rogues strengths normal fights most of the time. I suppose a dual-wield Rouge would be more effective during a boss fight, though.

Other than that, I don't really see where a Rogue would be more useful than another class. Enemies cluster most of the time anyway and the Rogue's low HP will make sure they don't last long in common fights like those.

Just watch the combat walthrough. Hawke's HP is going down extremely quickly while Aveline's barely takes a hit.

Well rogues aren't designed to absorb much damage, that's what tanks are for, they way they used the rogue in the combat vid isn't how I'd use or used the rogues I played with, they just sent Hawke in the middle of enemies and let him linger there while that should have been Aveline, a proper use for a rogue would be to stop a little till the enemies are all gathered around the warrior and start backstabbing to deal as much DPS as possible.... also the build they used might've had little defense, seeing as how cunning affects defense now (that we know so far), he might have been a dex based rogue.

AFAIK rogues will be much more mobile in da2, making up for the low hp.

Maybe, but you can't make that determination from the screenshot you linked.  Following your interpretation, it's impossible to raise defense at all.  Or attack or damage, for that matter.

Yes, I believe it won't be possible to raise defense through attributes. Regarding attack and damage, Peter Thomas said:

The primary attribute of a class gives a bonus to attack and damage. It's different for each class. The attributes each give their own bonus to another property, trying to make it useful, but not necessary to everyone.

Strength - Warrior primary.
Dexterity - Rogue primary.
Magic - Mage primary.

I think every class has a primary attribute that increases damage... Strength for Warriors, Dexterity for Rogues and Magic for Mages at least according to Peter, they however have other derived stats as in the screenshots, last I heard Cunning was the attribute that affects defense, that might have changed according to the screenshot... or it may have become a secondary stat.

I don't know if this is quite what you guys are looking for/at, but in a interview with Curse Mark Darrah spoke very briefly about abilities and specialisations in DA2:

When you start the game you have access to six trees of abilities, and then later on you get a specialization point at 7, and one at 14, that lets you unlock higher level specialties. For a mage it's spirit healer, blood magic, and force mage.

Maybe ViSeirA could add to the OP the known specs. (rogue should have assassin, duelist and shadow).

Fireball - The mage unleashes a bolt of flame that explodes, scattering and scorching foes. (Cost: 15 Mana / Cooldown: 10s / Fire damage: 650 / Elemental force: 4x / Size: 5m)

Firestorm - The mage calls forth a devastating shower of flame that blasts down on the target area. (Cost: 40 Mana / Cooldown: 30s / Fire damage: 520 every 1s / Elemental force: 2x / Duration: 10s / Size: 8m)

Fireball 650 damage with aoe 15 mana cost, and 10 second cooldown.. Holy f***..

Firestorm Aoe 520 damage every second..

I'm really going to enjoy being a mage..  Though it seems they got rid of the knockdown effect..

Didn't you get the memo?  They're bringing HP and Mana up to WoW level (read: over 9000.  No seriously, WoW has HP values somewhere around 20,000 for most people these days...No joke...).  Well, its either that or this combat video is complete BS.  Of course, I refuse to believe my favorite class has not been nerfed to the ground until we see some sort of "combat mage."

even if their magic is as godly as the AW's, I refuse to be forced to wear a dress into a fight.

These are the spells I saw in the video.

It should be noted that groups of spells had similar colour icon. With the move to give the player as much visual information in a glance as possible I would assume same colour icon means same school.

Winter’s Grasp (Blue Icon)
Cone + Snowflake (Cone of Cold?) (Blue Icon)

Spirit Bolt (Purple Icon)
Walking Bomb (Purple Icon)
Death Syphon (Skull -- Purple Icon)
Hand with star(?Dispel Magic)(Purple Icon)

Fireball (Red Icon)
Firestorm (Red Icon)

Crushing Prison (White Icon)

Glyph of Paralysis (Green Icon)
Green Cross (Heal) (?) (Green Icon)

Brain Daggers(?Mind Blast) (Brown Icon)

Excellent thread by the way.

Alodar :)

Has there been any confirmation that the damage values shown in the descriptions are static and not dynamic based on stats similar as to how the mana/stamina cost displayed in the descriptions in Origins changed based on fatigue?

I ask this because the values for rush is different in the combat walkthrough to what it is in the first dev diary video where the damage displayed in the description is only 98.

I thought rogues (or at least Rogue Hawke) was really badly used in the combat video. They rushed him into a group of enemies and then rained down AoE damage on him from both Varric and Bethany. Used smartly, a backstabbing/close-combat rogue would be far more deadly and not lose as much HP in a combat situation.

Well, I can't add those because their names didn't show up in the vid but good assumption nonetheless, it seems that tress have same background color or overall color... I hope we get descriptions for those soon.

I completely understand. You should keep the front page for only those things that have been confirmed -- it's fun to speculate though!

Less magic ¬¬

Only 2 ice spells?

Fire+Ice spell?

Flower icon is a nature attack or to regenerate mana/stamina?

Force Mage, Spirit Healer and Blood Mage spells?

We already know that there will be less magic. Though 31 magic plus 5-10 spells (from specs) it's not really bad.
The fire plis ice spell is a passive ability, I suppose. THe devs said that the circle talent are the passive abilities. I suppose is something relating in increasing the fire-ice spells.

I want nature magic. Please Keeper.

I dont see more space to add future magic. Maybe if they decrease the size of icons

Consider though that many abilities can be upgraded. Here's an example (look for the small icons).

Rush [Activated] - The rogue rushes forward, attempting to knock down the target and all nearby enemies. (Cost: 10 Stamina / Cooldown: 10s / Physical damage: 140 / Physical force: 16x)

DA's equivalent to ME2's Vanguard Charge? That'd be awesome.

I know this message is old but it appears some talents have 2 upgrades and some only have 1.

Interestingly doing a comparison of all the spell icons with those from DAO I don't think mana clash is there unless its an upgraded version of another spell. Also I can't work out what the final icon in the elemental line is, is it blizzard?

The following are definitely there:

Winters Grasp, Cone of Cold, Fireball, Flame Blast, Firestorm, Rock Armour,Stone Fist, Petrify, Earthquake, Horror, Sleep, Spirit Bolt, Walking Bomb, Dispel Magic, Death Syphon, Raise Dead, Arcane Shield, Mind Blast, Force Shield, Crushing Prison, Healing, Rejuvenate, Haste, Glyph of Paralysis, Glyph of Repulsion, Blood Sacrifice, Blood Wound, Blood Control.

Death Syphon is an interesting spell to retain I would have thought that would be 1 to get rid of although I guess they want to give a mage reward for killing enemies.

theres a pic of the mage school webs in one of the threads. The ice and fire spells belong to the elementalist tree. It would also appear that lightning and earth are together too.

Its a brilliant thread.

Yeah.. I just wish there was more info..
I really don't get why Bioware didn't release the spell descriptions already.
