ADDITIONALLY:)

Thermal clips should not show how many "shots" it has, but a percentage of heat sink potential. A given clip should work in any weapon, but each weapon uses a different amount of the heat sink potential with each shot.

This would make the system make sense within the ME universe, and would not feel like it's retconning the previous games.

And remember, when all else fails, use Fallout logic...

"It's SCIENCE!"

I don't mind Thermals... I preferred the cooldown system simply because it was different, but either way works.

Tribes had a little bit of the cooldown system, Halo had it. It's really not a new concept.

You're doing it wrong.

The problem with ME1's system was that, if you used the right weapon/ammo mods, you could spam bullets nonstop. Which is what everyone would always do by the final mission.
ME2's is stupid as well, in its own ways. Some weapons have not nearly enough spare clips that can be carried. And that you would have to go on a scavenger hunt after every firefight just looking for clips.

That's why my adept was so awesome. I would stasis Saren and still attack him. Wooh.

But anyway, can't they just keep in Thermal Clips? And then when a weapon runs out it goes back to the overheating process? But they make it much quicker and annoying? And it should damage your health too, as if it was burning your hands.

Oh, I know... I meant it makes it "futuristic" in some way... different from modern combat games.

The only problem was adding frictionless materials into the game and turning the Spectre weapons into god guns.

Thanks for the link, first time seeing that actually.

Unlimited ammo would make the game easier, and if snipers are as powerful as they were in ME2 then it just wouldn't be fair.

I'd prefer an option between using heat sinks and not. I loved how in ME1 you didn't need ammo - I spent about a minute wondering "how many shots do I have left in this?" before realising it was unlimited.

All you need is a removal of upgrades that reduce heat. I can fire my shotgun, assault rifle and pistols indefinitely. That feels wrong.

You cant have unlimited ammo in TPS.

Yes we can! Just play ME1 with Spectre Gear and the right mods.
This is fun. :D

But they should give us the option to choose the system you want to use. Then everyone would be happy.

I prefer the way ME1 handles weapons. The modding made up for the lack of variety in the weapons and ME1 actually had grenades instead of grenade "powers"

The game play in ME2 is fine - I'd just like the option of simply waiting for a thermal clip to cool down instead of ejecting it if I have time. A lot of the time in ME2 there never would have been that option, sort of switching to a different weapon anyway. Basically, hybrid the systems up - when weapons overheat, allow us to manually eject and reload a new clip immediately yo keep firing, or to stop firing and let the heat sink cool down. Then separate the heat sinks from weapons entirely - you have a limited number of thermal clips you can carry, and picking one up does not reload all weapons at once. This would force choices like "I just fired my sniper rifle, do I want to burn one of my limited thermal clips I share between all of my weapons to fire it again, or switch to another weapon while it cools down?"

Nice to know I'm not the only one that favors such an approach.

Yes. This isn't supposed to be Call of Duty.

You're so right.  I can hardly tell the two series apart anymore, so similar are they.

Agreed and I am sure the latter being a comment I remember Christina Norman commenting on when she and Jesse Houston did a livestream of them going through a level of Mass Effect 2 and answering some Questions from some fans that were watching (myself included). It still fairly easy in ME2 to use Sniper Rifles, giving them unlimited ammo would just make it a bad joke as to how easy it would be.

ME2 system is fine.

Considering the Big Ben sniper in the trailer is ejecting a heatclip from his rifle, I kinda doubt you'll have much success with your request...

This logic is flawless.

The idea from the start was thermal clips. In revelation they used thermal style clips that had 1000 tiny pellets. The idea that you fire unlimited energy from your gun with no material is unbelievable in the first place.

Remove thermal clips from pistols. Don't make ammo powers affect your power cooldown. Keep everything else.

If Bioware does this, I'll be happy.

Lol. Is there no alternative to ammo thermal clips?

Apparently not. I hope Bioware is more creative than this thread is.

It was derivative. Devs are too eager to copy one another. That goes for shooters as well as RPG's.

Bioware doesn't need to remove the thermal clips, just add them to the ME1 weapon system. When your gun overheats pop a thermal clip and continue fighting. At the very least you'd still be able to use your weapon if you ran out of thermal clips, you'd just have to wait for it to cool down or switch to another weapon. New research could be added to increase the heat capacity of the thermal clips so weapons take longer to overheat.

They could have easily balanced the dual Frictionless Materials combo.
But Mass Effect 2 was all about chainsaws instead of scapels.

It wasn't about that.

It was about players never facing a tactical decision about using their weapons.  They were never encouraged to swtich them up.

It was about a game mechanic that forced you to stop and wait in the middle of a firefight, ruining pacing in combat.

I like the heat clips.  I find myself being more tactical with which gun I use when.  In ME1 I put assualt rifle training on any non-soldier class as their extra ability and then went through the game, start to finish, only using assualt rifles.
