I hear game will take place over 20 years or something so at any time say if you do main missions it will skip ahead but wont that mean you cant do all side quest you missed at that point because of game going ahead 5 years so all side quests in that time ar gone.

That's correct. Side quests can become unavailable or have their objectives altered depending on the passage of time, which I assume to be related to the completion of main plot quests.

I'm not sure how this relates to "open world style." Bioware typically don't do open ended games.

I think they mentioned that yes some side quests become unavailable during time jumps. By the way it's 10 years not 20.

It's only natural that after a time jump of (hypothetically) 3 years some side quests would obviously be gone. I only hope they give you a good enough warning so that you know you are about to jump into the future, so that you can complete side quests before you do.

It's RPG strategy 101 -- do all the side quests you're interested in doing before advancing the main storyline.

Devs said before the jump it'll be pretty obvious as some NPC will probably say something like "If you have something to do, do that before we do the next mission"

I always really hated moments like that, because I spend like the next 24 hours making sure I've done everything, then when I come back,  I realise I forgot to do THE big thing.

I think that was more of an oversight by the developers than a design feature

More an oversight by players who don't look at their quest log.

Or they might still be there but change.

Or like my play thru you want to rush off to see the world and end up locked in the mage tower and end up with lothering being destroyed.

I just love how the incentives lead you to do low-priority stuff before high-priority stuff. (/sarcasm)

It all comes back to hoarding and rewards.

If only people in Lothering had told you they were preparing to flee because of the darkspawn attack.

And if only someone had clearly said that they'd lock you in the mage tower if you tried to brave it.

Heh...

Village Elder: Oh, thank you, noble hero. Because of you, we survived the attack of the Qunari! But many people are wounded, and they will die unless they receive proper treatment. I implore you, noble soul, please spare us some poultices so we can tend to our wounded.
Hawke: Alright. Just one moment.
<five years later>
Hawke: Hello, again. Sorry for the delay. Do you still need those poultices?
