How about romances where we call the shots?

Romances in these games is all about doing and saying what they want. Where is my damn gift?

Well. Alistair gives you a rose, Morrigan gives you a ring, Zevran gives you a... earring? I don't remember. Leliana gives you her heart or whatever.

She means a gift you actually want. Like a staff, or a arcane tome,  or a pet dragonling..

I don't think these are easy to find.

All I want is a female Blood Mage love interest for male Hawke. And even better - romance with Desire Demon!

Psh! Duncan's shield wasn't easy to find.. Zevran's gloves or boots weren't easy to find.. Morrigan's stupid grimoire that I couldn't even use wasnt easy to find... When will my companions think about me and my needs for a change?

I'd like it if they'd teach you something, like in KotOR2. A unique ability of some kind.

-Dwarf romance (am hoping it's Varric because based on tidbits by Mary Kirby (writer of Sten, Loghain and Varric) he sounds like a really fun guy! But I would settle for a female dwarf (like Sigrun XD) as well

-Children! Like why not?

-Great dialogue and non-cringeworthy love scenes.

Word.

You're thrust into the Grey Wardens, then immediately expected to take charge. Oh sure, Alistair says he's there to guide the new recruits, but just see how far you get when you wait for Alistair to take you anywhere once you're through those gates. That's right, it takes you nowhere at all, ever. Then all these other people join your cause, and add absolutely nothing, letting you lead them through hell and back all the while ****ing and moaning about every decision you make. You provide them with a wide variety of wondrous gifts (nostalgic or important items like grimoirs, special flowers, a soulsword (amg Magik wants her thing back, Sten) or other nice things like special statues, books, paintings and jewelry), and what do you get in return?

More complaints, more butting their nose into things that are none of their business, and more whining when you don't do things their way but never before you actually have to make such a choice.

My Hawke had better get a nice bow or dagger from one of his companions, as appreciation for all the trouble he goes through just for them. Maybe a cute pet kitten. If not, they'd better watch out, because I will take every opportunity I'm presented with in the game to get rid of them or make their lives miserable. Especially if I'm romancing them. Don't make me cross half the country to pluck you a precious, rare flower when you won't do the same for me.

*cough* I'm sorry, where were we? >.>

Please no pregnancy or children.

I don't get why the timeline being 10 years means a romance should involve a child. I understand it sounds good in theory but think about what it would be like:

*timejump*

*pooof* magically a child appears in Hawke's home and it looks just like the other children you've been seeing all over the word and has a really annoying voice. All the other characters assume your char cares for the child while to the player it would be annoying. I just cringe if I think of an NPC like Oren being my PC's child.

Is that code for a pillow to the face in the deep of the night? I mean, it would happen off-screen of course, that made solving the Connor dilemma by killing him perfectly acceptable! Boarding school just means that they'll return eventually.

Okay I am confused.

What the heck does Oblivion got to do with the price of sliced bread mate? I mean really?

Why would anyone think you saying the romances in Bioware games made to feel more of a connection to the characters therein is an attack on Oblivion?

It's not an attack, it's an observation, and one I share. Not so much the romance angle, but I felt no personal connection to Cyrodiil at all. There was zero reason for me to go seek out Martin, besides advancing the plot. In DAO, I felt not connection to the Wardens, but I did care about my companions and people like Fergus and Irving.

It's not that Oblivion had it wrong, I just think BioWare has it better.

But that wasnt my point at all.

There was no reason at all for him to say that at all; the statement about Oblivion has absolutely nothing to do with what he said before or after it. There was no connection there it all.
It was not in context of his post.

If he had made an actual contextual statement; like about the generic feel of oblivion (at times) in comparison to the rich tapestry feel of bioware games then I could have understood and discussed it but as it was it was just completely random and rather confusing.

Why was it there?
What does it have to do with what he said?
What was the point apart from being a random "observation" about Oblivion inserted into a topic that has nothing to do with oblivion apart from to let everyone know he doesnt like OBlivion?

EDIT:
Also Merrill is not a confirmed companion.  Will people please stop talking about her as if she is. It is okay to request her as a romanceable LI but she hasnt been confirmed. Thank you.
