Except they're never demonstrated as such. They're treated as purely disposable supplies. And the clips in your weapons don't seem to cool down by themselves, ever, no matter how long you wait.


They're not treated like that because something that is ~240 degrees Celcius takes a long time to cool down. This is my biggest problem with the ME1 system is that those weapons would not cool down that quickly, maybe if Shepard was caring around some really advanced cooling system on his/her back that plugged into the weapon and made it so they didn't melt themselves from the inside out, sure.


I would trade a heavy weapon for a advance cooling pack... Loved the Widow a shame I couldn't just enjoy sitting back and using it extensively.

I don't think trying to apply the logic of how corpses disappear purely because it's an engine mechanic would apply well to ejected thermal clips. Thermal clips dropped by enemies on death don't disappear. I also imagine the tiny thermal clip model has far fewer polygons and takes less VRAM with textures than NPCs.

Apparently you've never been a victim to the Benezia throw bug of doom. You're lucky. The bug is this: if Benezia casts throw on you, and then, while you're under its effects, one of those cutscenes where Benezia opens up a door plays, you'll get teleported to a corner of the room, permastuck. If you wait a while and don't get killed fast, you'll notice Shepard's body getting more and more mutilated (the ragdoll physics bugging out). The only thing you can do about it is reload a previous save and try again.

I have been pinned to the ground on my first few playthroughs, and the biotics kept chain casting on me my first time, I was perturbed to say the least.
I had Wrex and maybe Kaidan on either Normal or Veteran, so it was not that bad, I was just useless as the fight slowly dragged on those few time :lol:.

Also by that part of the game I did not even bother finding cover so I never experienced that bug, I under stand that clipping through the floor or boxes was what triggered it, but I could be wrong on that.

Anyway, once I figured out what to do, I would immediately turn right in the room and take out the commandos and geth. Moving I guess in a counterclockwise U motion around the room.

The key was being prepared for her, and she's been a breeze ever since. ^_^

It's not practical, performance-wise, to do that. NPCs = lots of polygons and lots of VRAM used in the way of textures.

Sometimes I get lucky and defeat her without running into the bug once on the first try. During my last playthrough, I got hit by the bug 20 times in a row. I eventually got fed up and gave myself the super gun.

To conclude with this thread, like them or not, thermal clips make perfect sense. Technolodgy advances, new systems are implemented. There were no huge changes. The same weapons are still used, but now, you just place a thermal clip in the place where the heatsink used to be.

As I explained earlier: The gameplay doesn't show anything of the supposed improvements. It is just generic shooter gameplay. You're repeating and you're still wrong.

I've never run out of Widow ammo even using it exclusively on Insanity. But that's besides the point, I would love to see some advanced cooling pack in ME3 as a heavy weapon option.

I looked back at the post in question from didymos1120.

Dunno how the polygons and such factor in, but my understanding was that you had used the cut Codex info, while the Codex supports enemies dropping Thermal Clips along with other stuff on the battlefield.

Also that Shep & Co maybe reusing some previously used Thermal Clips.

Yes, but you're overlooking that part about how many of them there would be if done for all the clips ejected by all the weapons in a firefight. It would add up fast.  Even just Shepard would rack up a lot, even if that's generally feasible, but then you'd just have people griping about how nobody else has piles of clips at their feet.  And, in any case, I wasn't comparing the clip drops to the bodies. I was comparing the ejected clips to the bodies: both vanish. The only difference is, they let the bodies stick around a little bit so it's not so blatantly unrealistic.

So I haven't been to forums in some time but seeing this topic still being live issue.. wanted to share, for pc user that don't know about it. You can have a working hybrid system that i find lore firendly.. imho anyways. Basically you change some lines and you get heatsinks that cooldown if you wait. Or you can use them up,as normal, if you need to spray alot of rounds. Anyways this is an old post but pc user might find it useful..

If he is Earthborn he gets +15 to sneak and +10 to lockpick hack.

Must have moved to aquire more thermal clips then... I meant sitting back as a Sniper and remaining out of the action while teammates were sent to advance on the enemy. Sure during some fire fights there was more then 13 enemies at times.

I didn't move to grab ammo all that much, Husks are really the only time I can think of where you would run out of ammo but I never use the Widow against husks, you have tech and biotic powers for that.

The example doesn't really matter, because the point is they restricted our access to various resources by design for gameplay purposes.  We can only hack some computers for creds.  We can only loot special persistent corpses for creds or suit upgrades.  We can only open certain crates for minerals.  So on. So forth.  Thermal clips are just another artificially restricted resource.  One of those restrictions is "No re-use."

At rank 4 of rape you can intoxicate your victim and silently shag. You also get the sexual predator achievement.
