Must have moved to aquire more thermal clips then... I meant sitting back as a Sniper and remaining out of the action while teammates were sent to advance on the enemy. Sure during some fire fights there was more then 13 enemies at times.
I didn't move to grab ammo all that much, Husks are really the only time I can think of where you would run out of ammo but I never use the Widow against husks, you have tech and biotic powers for that.
You never used a Widow against husk? Your missing out then! Next time you get the chance aim for the legs when they only have a health bar left.

Sorry, I meant dead mercs. I mean, it's totally unrealistic. People carry credit chits all the time. Why can't I loot them?
Because Bioware removed the feature to get money from dead enemys.

Any hard hitting weapon does that, but it's a waste of ammo. Tech/biotic powers tear through husks.

So I haven't been to forums in some time but seeing this topic still being live issue.. wanted to share, for pc user that don't know about it. You can have a working hybrid system that i find lore firendly.. imho anyways. Basically you change some lines and you get heatsinks that cooldown if you wait. Or you can use them up,as normal, if you need to spray alot of rounds. Anyways this is an old post but pc user might find it useful..

I know, It is just annoying to do it yourself instead of having a simple option in gamplay menu.

Well, maybe ( you got a "bounty" for kills in ME1, which got turned into Cerberus paying you for missions, and I doubt there ever was cred looting mechanic in ME2), but there you go: Bioware removed the feature to re-use clips. Why? Gameplay. They wanted to restrict our access to that resource.

Yeah, but did I complain about the lack of getting credits for killing enemys? No.didymos1120 wrote...

And restricting the number of shoots may be the reason to add the standard shooter mechanic. But the mechanic still doesn't fit to the lore.

Once again, any hard hitting weapon does that. The Mattock, the Phalanx, the Carnifax, the Widow is not special in that regard.

It does when the guns in ME1 cooled about 100 times faster than they should. Lore wise it makes perfect sense.

Sort of my whole point. You're singling out one restriction as being unforgivably lame for "lore reasons", but it's no worse than a bajillion unrealistic others you just accept without a peep.

Neither do the mechanics of biotics. Neither does Shepard not being able to look for cred chits (Shep has two working hands, right? That's part of the "lore"). Neither does Shepard the Spectre being forced to purchase his/her own gear without any Citadel funding. Etc.

While no one's brought them up by name yet (and that's surprising, as that's usually a go-to tactic in the Eternal Clip Debate), shall we consider the silliness that is dual "Frictionless Materials X" mods? Talk about violating lore (not to mention pretty much murdering thermodynamics and mutilating the corpse).

For Jacob's mission, I just wish the Normandy had sent supply drops with thermal clips just so the canon wouldn't have hit that issue.

It's basically just a compact cylinder. No fins, no ventilation, etc. Now, riddle me this: How the f*ck is that supposed to cool down in anything like a reasonable amount of time?

Even with the lore, it doesn't make sense that running out of thermal clips would prevent a gun from firing. Plus Jacob's loyalty mission prove the retcon.
It does because they've entirely, physically replaced the old system with the clip system. There's no way to cool it without a clip. The heat would have nowhere to go but into the parts of the gun you don't want it to. Quite sensibly, the gun refuses to commit suicide.

Next you'll argue that lightsabers are unreal.

It's a retcon, plain and simple. Bioware at least went to the trouble of coming up with an in-universe explanation, but you still have to suspsend your disbelief in regards to the upgrades. For obvious gameplay reasons, they are not going to include the old weapon types, even when it would be approrpiate "storywise".
It is really not that complicated.
LEARN WHAT A RETCON IS PEOPLE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! A retcon would be saying you used Thermal clips in ME1, inventing a new thing is not a retcon. Now it was poorly implemented and is a out of place in some places unintentionally (Jacob's Loyalty mission/Zaeed and Jessie) but it's not put in as a retcon.

Except it IS a retcon. They invented story reasons for why it is not, but as seen in the infamous Jacob's infamous loyalty mission (and other places, infamously), it apparently upgraded every weapon retroactively throughought the galaxy. Therefore, it is a retcon, both because of the example I listed, and because I said so, and I am always right.

It is a limited one, because they're saying in ME2 that all those geth weapons in ME1 were using the clip system, and the organics copied them.

You can actually make something similar to a lightsaber in real life though. It would be totally impractical, work nothing like it does in the movies, would either have to be like a blow torch on crack or if it used actual lasers a contained loop like a handsaw shaped thing, would probably light everything on fire and probably melt you due to that pesky thing called convection but you could make a weapon like that. You can't make something go from 200+ degrees celcius to cool in 10 seconds without some sort of advanced cooling system.

The difference here is the fact that mass effect tries to bring in science into the adventure. So they are a science fiction game. While star wars don't really explain crap on how it works. Star wars is a science fantasy which makes both franchises different from one another. His point is perfectly logical considering the fact that this game tries really hard to add some science to the adventure.Pwner1323 wrote...
