It would ruin the characters and force some serious rethinking of the script :P

Maybe for UV protection? Just the first thought to pop into my head. It could have something to do with a sensitivity to light or any number of things.

It would be realistic, and the Lazarus project made sure ME lost all of it's realism (wich was a lot).

Something like this could have been easily inserted in the game through "investigate".

Think about, with a tinted visor you can be talking to someone completely normally and make whatever kind faces you want at them.  Like this Posted Image or this Posted Image. Advantage if you ask me.

Liberal applications of genetic engineering, medi-gel, money, and cybernetics, all of which were known to exist in ME1 are "unrealistic"? Thanks. I now know exactly how seriously I should take your comments in the future. That is to say, "not very much at all."

As for quarians: privacy, and a killer Poker face.

Actually I think the real reason is simply to add some mystery to them, which has worked very well. I don't think there really needs to be a reason for their visors being dark other than that.

Bioware ran out of ideas for aliens.

Spending all of their time inside enviro suits would have given them pallid, waxy-looking skin, something similar to how the Asgard look in Stargate SG-1.

My theory is that its done for emotional reasons. Seeing that waxy complexion on each others face would be a constant, painful reminder of how much they have lost, thus they tint their visors to hide the ugly truth from each other, and themselves, allowing them to continue on with some semblance of normalcy.

Wathever. I was talking abourt the ideology of ME. And what makes you think any of that stuff is fantasy. Money? whf. 20 years ago, wireless connection would have been considered crazy. If everyone thought like you we would still be stuck in the middle ages.

What are you talking about? You said the Lazarus Project removed ME's realism/plausibility and I pointed out why it clearly does not.

So then why is the Lazarus Project so unbelievable decades in the future? >.>;

Way to contradict your own argument, buddy.

Also, way to take the ONE believable thing on his list as source for your argument while ignoring the others.  :innocent:

OT:  I just thought about this the other day.  An explanation would be nice, while my personal belief is some sort of UVA/UVB sensitivity. Or simply a plot device to create (succesfully) a mystery to the species.

Maybe the majority of them don't want people to know what they look like. It's the same way some people use avatars instead of actual pictures of themselves on the internet.

Hate to be a stickler, but the events of Mass Effect take place in the 2100's.

so where in the words "science fiction role playing game"  does it say realism is integral to the game?

ETA: Oh, and by "they",  I actually mean "Bioware".

they are, it's just really fogged up because the glass gets fogged after not removing it for so long.

Seriously, that's why Tali never hits anything when you bring her on a mission.

Quarians live with very little privacy. The masks are all they can get.

I always wondered if there was actually some sort of dense or clouded gas under the mask, perhaps with antibiotics in it to keep them healthy, but ManShep taking off Tali's mask seems to prove that it's just ordinary air.

I'm going to go with privacy as my second guess, though.
