It might be because they are an alien. Their eyes may see in a different spectrum than ours. Note the Batarian merc fixing the gunship that made his visor clear to talk to Shepard. It may be thermal vision since it might be something ultraviolet.

Perhaps their eyes are very sensitive to av light? There eyes do seem to have a glow to them.

I was referring to the quarians' morphology, not their story or characters.

Just wondering... Do young quarians know how quarians look in general?

If they REALLY want others to know how they look... Why not just paint themselfs or make a digital representation... or something, I mean, its 2185... that should be something easy to do, right?

I'm not opposed to it because it's "scifi", but I agree with Pwner1323, they took a "dead" body and resurrected it, we are more than the sum of our parts, the brain would have been destroyed and along with it the essence of that person, sure, they could rebuild the entire body, but it would just be a shell.

They could have easily reconstructed/preserved Shepard's memories and personality the same way as President Huerta in the Cerberus Daily News articles. That precedent has been set.

Otherwise, if Shepard was recovered quickly enough, his brain could have been preserved by space age technologies. Your brain is the last portion of your body to fully shut down as you die.

More likely, it was a combination of the two. His brain was still barely functioning and they recreated Shepard's being through the electronic/digital procedure that kept President Huerta's memories and personality intact.

I was playing through Mass Effect today and I went to add points to Tali, and then I realized that her face is fairly visible. I questioned this exact same thing and wondered why they just don't make transparent visors.

I wonder how they communicate the finer points of their emotions while in suits. No part of their body shows and they wear similar suits. Perhaps their language has nuances that we don't hear in the translator. Their body language doesn't seem that different to humans....

As to why their visors aren't clear? Maybe they are to Quarian eyes.

Maybe they are like earthworm Jim, tiny head magic suit, Just to clarify I am joking with this comment. I always pressumed it was down to the sensitivity of their eyes.

Probably the best answer....but i'm sure that bioware never tought about this before creating tali.

Most likely due because of the fact that they don't get any direct sunlight while wearing their suits, so now it could effect them in anynumber of ways, like say burning their skin or perhaps even blinding them, but this is just my theory. I imagine the visors are probaly like tinted windows on a car where you can't really see in from the outside, butfrom the inside everything is perfectly clear.

Do you have any idea how annoyingly tiresome it would get to constantly defog a mask you had to wear your whole life? They got fed up with it and just stopped clearing it, obviously.

:innocent:

It would be realistic, and the Lazarus project made sure ME lost all of it's realism (wich was a lot).

Liberal applications of genetic engineering, medi-gel, money, and cybernetics, all of which were known to exist in ME1 are "unrealistic"? Thanks. I now know exactly how seriously I should take your comments in the future. That is to say, "not very much at all."

As for quarians: privacy, and a killer Poker face.

Wathever. I was talking abourt the ideology of ME. And what makes you think any of that stuff is fantasy. Money? whf. 20 years ago, wireless connection would have been considered crazy. If everyone thought like you we would still be stuck in the middle ages.

Umm... if everyone thought like Schneidend, wouldn't we develop faster?

why don't the quarians make their visors clear?

Well, first consider that they actually don't want to show others (read: every random person) their faces, that's heavily implied several times, both in the books and in the game...
From what we know, after getting the suit, Quarians only show their faces to lovers/mates, children and parents, and the latter two aren't always a given (Tali says she never showed her face to anyone during the romance, and apparently Tali's father never took the time to show Tali what he looked like under that helmet, even when he was ill and could conceivably get away with showing it to her...)

The mask is probably polarized on purpose (you see its a polarized mask in Tali romance scene), and that purpose is probably a union of two factors:
- a need for privacy (it creates, together with the suit, an illusion of personal space in a place where everything is shared out of necessity);
- a possible physical need, due to quarian eyes being more sensible to light.

That's my take... I'll argumentate the second point more in depth but I don't want to derail the thread... ;P

My theory is based off the Riddick eyes theory. I think they've got those types of eyes so the sunlight or even manmade light will cause terrible pain. Sure at Tali/Sheps romance this isn't an issue but I think that's due to BW not taking that into account after all 98% of the game has shep the brick in it too.

But regardless their masks are tinted to act as sunglasses 24/7 so they aren't in pain when dealing with light sources.

I'm pretty sure its mentioned in the Codex that their homeworld is near a cooler sun, which implies to me, along with the glowing eyes, that they are more or less used to a less intense viewing light than most species.

There, that's a good explanation. Plus, maybe they are shy.

The "real world" reason is that Bioware knows that more mysterious is more compelling. A big part of why Tali is so popular is because we are all constantly wonder what she *really* looks like. Take away the mystery and its over - not quite as interesting.
