Given the virtual slavery of the mages at the hands of the Chantry, I'm hoping it means that Hawke can actually have some impact on the world around him. Being a modern Calenhad by uniting the different factions of the Free Marches could potentially make him the most important person in Thedas, by being the head of a newly formed and powerful nation. Having the power to dismantle templar control over mages, and liberate them under his flag, could lead to the gradual decline of the Andrastian Chantry as mages across Thedas would flock to the Free Marches to be outside of Chantry and templar control.

I don't think that alone would be enough to qualify her/him as "the most important person in Thedas". I think it is probably something else, since uniting a bunch of different city states into a nation would not be enough to constitute such a label.

As far as mages flocking to the Free marches, its not like it would be the first and only nation to allow free mages. Rivain for example, is known to actually have alot of respect for their native mages, as well as peaceable co-existance with the elves. They are also a non-Chantry country, and have been resistant to efforts to reconvert them back to Andrasteism. A number of them follow the qun, though without the qunari miliaristic and inflexible attitudes towards non converts.

It would feel extremity meeh if Hawke single handedely brings about the fall of the Chantry.
That would be pushing the "he's awesomorz!" thing way too far, especially if they end up making Ferelden fall into civil war making everything the Warden has done utterly irrelevant.

I don't think they would make that happen (at least I hope not) because that would be rather cheesy.

I'm hoping that it will be the more realistic "ripple effect", in that hawke's actions have major reprecussions that spread throughout Thedas. Domino effect, perhaps.

I think they already are bringing about the "hez sew awesome" aspect in the sense he/she is going to rise to power and take over something, even though technically, he/she comes from nothing. So I think that's unavoidable. It is, after all, and RPG.

I think there is enough being set up, and going on in thedas that the foundations have been laid for something big to happen with the right catalyst.

Hawke having a Martin Luther-type impact on the Chantry might be plausible, but actually bringing it down completely?  It's difficult to imagine that happening during one lifetime.

Agreed. At most, Hawke might set in motion the chain reaction that brings the Chantry to its knees.

I think it's more than possible to have a good ending for a mage. I know my mage was certainly happy with her fate after Origins, then Awakening and so on. I've asked for the freedom boon twice now and never had the Cullen screen pop up. I believe my mage was incredibly respected in Ferelden, and even more so once she took on the role of Warden Commander.

Although the Chantry may have shut down the boon, they can't stop word of her good deeds spreading. While my Warden does respect the Chantry and the Templars, more freedom for mages is one of her dreams, and she knows that she's started something.
