I think in regards to the Turians, we can apply Kaidan Alenko's sage advice regarding alien species:

Kaidan: It was Vyrnnus who made me see how human aliens are. They're not different or special, they're jerks or saints. Just like us.

Not all Turians are jerks like the Councilor, Warden Kuril, Vyrnnus  or Saren. But in the same vein, not all of them are good folk like Garrus, Chellick, Palin or the Rodam Store clerk.

Out of all the alien species in Mass Effect, the Turians are the closest to humanity in attitude and temperament.

Well they do have their turian honour and pride going on there. As for xenophobic.. I guess that's from turian to turian. There are alot of xenophobes from different races. Heck, that asari on Illium is far more xenophobic than any turian I've met in game.

'That Asari' on the Home planet of the Asari.

Please be more specific.

Is it the one with the slave Quarian?

It's an Asari colony but whatev, didn't think that far lol. The asari from Baria Frontiers, when you do the quest for Shiala

Turians being based on the ancient Republican/Imperial Romans stereotype, they can't help being percieved as duty-obsessed, uncompromising hardasses. Such a profile made them ideally suited to become the Council's "police force" and main military contributor.

Naturally, you can't generalize too much: there were plenty of corrupt and dishonest Romans and it's likely there are lots of atypical turians like Garrus.

Of course, we are talking about the early Romans (pre-Augustus), where Stoicism is virtually the state religion of the Romans. Add to that the meritocracy in early Confucianism and you get pretty close to the Turian Hierarchy.

The Turians are definitely not the most arrogant race. I'd say the most arrogant is likely the Asari - with good reason though, as they are scientifically the most advanced, and econimically and politically the most dominant.

Turians are sexy pieces of sex.

and maybe some bird inspired stuff or something thrown in there.

They are so far my all time fav. alien created by Bioware.

The fact that they from a militaristic type government gives them a interesting edge in story telling.

just sayin'

Hawt. Sexy. Bird-like. Dinosaur-like. Even a hint of dog-like-ness, for some reason. But they also purr, which is awesome. They're apex predators. Interesting society which would make for awesome social complications on the individual vs. group level. Interesting design. Cool without needing to be primarily sexy-aliens like asari.

Also, I hate the cold, so I'd totally hang out on Palaven.

I like them. I like that they're different and are sort-of rivals with the humans in the ME-verse. They're well written and I enjoy having them in game, my second favourite race ^^

Not exactly.  They also added in a level of personal responsiblity that is just totally alien to most Americans.  (I mean that in the nicest possible way, my fellow Americans).

Oh, you mean honor. Yeah, humans don't have that.

I think the Turians are very fascinating. To me they are like the klingons in Star Trek, a little silly in their attitudes but you can live with each other and they make powerful allies. Actually thinking about it the Krogan are very klingony...

I think we need to remember that we're seeing the Turians from a human's perspective, you know, the species they went to war with not too long ago. Since then, humanity's been not only pardoned, but give a whole heck of a lot of power in a short amount of time. I think were we playing as, say, Asari!Shepard, we might view them in a different light. *shrugs*

I think they’re proud, but I don’t think I’d say xenophobic. I’d say they have a ‘cool’ relationship with humanity, but I’d also say that it’s reciprocated. Jacob calling Garrus a cuttlebone (in certain plotlines) comes to mind.

In addition to Garrus, Nihlus seemed like a pretty cool dude. He was the one who puts Shepard's name up for Spectre-ship.

I view them as a dignified species with good reason for having pride in their empire and people. I like that they are men and women of action, that they generally hold honor and the good of the whole above selfish desires and the individual...without sacrificing individuality. I like that they respect and value the history of their people. I even appreciate their militaristic edge and how it drives what they do. I especially like their no-nonsense approach to warfare.

Genuine curiosity: You know, I see this all over the place, but where in the world does it mention that they purr???
