Now now, don't deny it that deep down you love Vin Diesel, even though my character isn't based on him, but that seems to be beside the point.

Oh noes! The ugly truth is out! How will I ever go on within these forums? :o

It's all too simple, there wont be any pre-load of a PC game that is not multiplayer cd key controlled. The leak of the software would be a epidemic fail and every hacker in the world would be on his toes trying to get a pre glimspe of the content and most likely would be successfully no matter the level of intelligence the hacker has. It also can lead to a serious law suit on the end of the company who is dishing out said software... (Employee's, mistakes, hacked servers, who knows....

It's a bit easier to lockup a trailer full of boxes than a online copy of said title.. No publisher would let that float around ever... Simply don't expect anything like this ever, no matter what level of encryption is possible.

Actually, it's quite easy and secure to let the player pre-load everything except the executable file. Crackers can look at the game data, maps, textures, sounds and other ones and zeroes as much as they like, but without a program to run, what are they going to crack exactly?

It's not that simple and the .exe would be easily obtainable through other channels. Not too mention then it would'nt be a preload since you would need to connect and get more.

There are more reasons too such as disecting the character graphics and model packs and using them for many other things prior to game release.. its not going to happen unless its a MMO or of multiplayer only nature.

Imagine pre-loading the game, someone grabbed the models made some funky demo and plastered it all over the internet with viral tactics exposing all the graphics and whatnot the company spent years on making... and thats just one of 1000's of bad things that can happen.

Seems like it would be just as bad the day of release as the day before release.

If someone used any material from DA:O for their purposes and didn't give credit to DA for the models, it would be a pretty bad day for them. Depending on their uses I wouldn't be surprised if this individual was sued by Bioware if they sold this product that had Bioware's models. This sort of danger is evident in any game, it's nothing new, and it's not the biggest problem with pre-loading. Developers more than likely expect some customers to rifle through their content, they aren't dumb.

Steam has pre-loaded previous games, there is no reason why it wouldn't be possible for DA. It all hinges on EA and VALVE.

D2D now preloads on the 1st! still waiting for Steam news..

Who is the killjoy with little knowledge of game industry and programming that stated that preload was only for multiplayer games... pfff, really? lol

Man, if Steam doesn't have pre-loading and D2D does, I am gonna be so pissy... grrrr!! I went with Steam because I thought they'd have the greatest chance of a pre-load!

Well, I went for steam because, here in China, we had absolutely no other choice, and I enjoyed the mix up at start with the 55$ CE so I do not complain too much.

Still this silence is creeping me out...

Impulse has mentioned that they are increasing their bandwidth right now for significant margins.

I'm not saying it dispels all worries, but it put my mind a little at ease...

From Impulse forums:

"Download speeds: We are already working with our CDN partner, CacheFly to ensure that the game is pushed to the edges of their distribution network. We've also recently expanded our download capacity through them to ensure high speeds even under heavy load. We're doing everything we can to ensure the fastest speeds possible on November 3rd. Ask folks how fast their downloads were the launch day of Demigod or Sins of a Solar Empire. Those downloads were blazing fast.

File size: when I know, I'll post the total download size."

Hello [My real name Omitted],

You should not need to do anything special to access Digital Deluxe content.

Preload is determined by the publisher of the game - we are unable to provide information on whether or not this game will provide preload.

If you have any further questions, please let us know - we will be happy to assist you.

How long'd it take you to get a reply?  I have two inquiries in, one from yesterday morning, one from this morning (slightly different one) and no reply on either.  Say what you will, when I've sent D2D a message, I've gotten the reply within 3 to 4 hours.  Steam is not impressing me.

Simply a messenger here, so I do not know unfortunately. You are more than welcome to visit the the thread over at Steam and ask the poster yourself.

As another poster mentioned over there as well, the process to put all this pre-load jazz together is not a simple update of "Hey gaiz, pre-load we haz!" - I have a good, although somewhat brief (only joined within the last year now), track record with Steam. So I'd opt on the side of good until proven devious and say they are working as best they can and would would keep hope alive well until closing of the business day on November 2nd.

As to why your own replies weren't followed up on, I cannot say. I have never attempted to contact them. Good luck though! Patience, as ever. It takes much time... you have been explained about how the information has to progress through a series tubes, yes?
