I like it. Vastly improved over Origins imo.

There's a few problems here or there but I don't see it as cartoony.

I wish the skin had more texture to it. Other than that? Not at all.

Does turning the hurlocks into putties count as cartoony?

If so, then yes.

See I think this is the problem with pre-release screenshots. They come from early builds. Look at Flemeth's face, her skin texture is much higher resolution than any we saw in the first game--now look at the early shots of the Hawke family. All kinda plastic looking, much like most of the not-withered-wrinkled-and-old skin textures from DAO.  I wonder if the shots some people complain about are just using old low res textures.

I think GodWood called you on this, but I looked up some pictures of yu gi oh, and I'm not seeing the resemblance.

This is the best thing I've heard all day.

I thought this was the best thing posted here all day:

Whatever it was I didn't mean it! Unless it was clever, then I'll take full credit for planning it that way.

@Saibh and marshalleck, you're taking both quotes out of context which is a bit rude even if done in fun.

To the OP, yes the characters look cartoony and I don't care for it.

Er, no, I'm actually not.

Full quote:

I mean, it means the same thing inside the quote or outside it.

As for the other one, it was a typo, but a funny one.

Dragon Age 2 seems to be more cartoony yes"Oh old school RPG as it was in Dragon Age 1 was to hard and complicated, so we make a freaking dead stupid game for all of you action players out there, Halo jockeys are the best kind of players...here take more action, less roleplay, less complication"

Turning it form old school into some action nonsense. "RP" is a element of no importance. Has there even been any conversations yet? I presume the new hero also is a "talking one". If Mass Effect takes the same development we have Gears of Mass Effect. But then I presume Bioware favours Xbox players and to make them happy is great.

Good work Bioware, good work. I been around since Baldurs Gate but im considering you guys forgot what made you liked and made your games enjoyable, no it was not the action or the weird spin offs Interplay made with the Baldurs Gate license.

Realistic graphics isn't necessary for every game.

I love you, new favorite poster.

Now, make five new threads. One about "What is an RPG and why DAII isn't one" and one about "Console gaming is ruining our DA" and one about "DAII is a hack'n'slash, time to pack your bags" and one about "EAWare, you sold out, allow me to be first in line to buy your new game", and "I haven't looked up a damn thing about this game".

Wouldn't be my first choice for graphics direction, but I thought the same about KOTOR 1 and 2 before I played them and they're up their with my favorite games of all time. So I can't be too harsh.....

..yet. :-p

If I may change up a favourite Allistair quote to suite this occasion:

Cartoony graphics I can stomach, I suppose. The silly ass animations are another matter. We'll see how the final product turns out, but at least as far as my aesthetic taste goes, DA2 looks like it took about 5 steps backwards.

Art direction is a step in the wrong direction in my opinion. The graphics fidelity MIGHT be better but the style seems lacking to me. I liked the dark tone of Origins, Too bright and textures seem intentionally bland in some cases. As either part of the quest for DA to "have its own visual identity" or just bad design, I do not think DA2 will be as good as a DAo or Mass Effect visually.

Cartoony is a tough word but I get your meaning and agree that it is a step in that direction.

Umm... Varric is a dwarf. He's not supposed to have human proportions.

Dunno about the perverted part yet, but I'm hoping.

I like DA2 stylized graphics. For me, there are too many realistic games like "brown shooters".

I do not play the games to see reflection of the real life, I play them to see something that I cant see while look out of the window. Here in Russia-we surrounded by brown, gray, muddy, lifeless environment 70% of the year.

So I hated DAO art style with passion and DA2 is like a breath of fresh air to me. But Warhammer and Warcraft styles are my favorite of all time so you can see whyIi have no complayns other, than art style of DA2 stylized not enough=).

I see the change in art-style mainly as an improvement.

- Color palette has been modified and made generally brighter (though not always apparently), which might reflect the changes between Ferelden (which is a backwards country that smells like wet dog) and the Free Marches (which seem to be like Italy back in the day with all the city states). I think the color palette fits the change in scenery.

- Animations are the problem for me. As the characters seem to be teleporting (yes, like an anime) when they attack with melee weapons is my main reason for not really liking this, but for all I know this might be nothing like what it really is like in-game (I mean, I've seen like a couple of minutes of BETA combat, we might have to wait until the game comes out to judge).

So overall the changes to art style appeal to me, but the animations don't.
