It's not cartoony enough, if you ask me, and you did.

This.

Someday I'd love to play a Western RPG that is really cartoony. By cartoony I don't mean wacky and silly, but rather the art style. Like the concept art for the companions we've seen so far.

I don't think that your main concern should be is it to cartoony or not(although it looks like Darksiders).I can live with TEE oR BG graphics and it doesn't bother me.

There are more important issues that are showing going backward trend:

1) game definitely feels as console game , thus can't be even 1/2  complex like other classic games beforeif it ends up being console game). You gonna have to,most likely, play around with dumb X,Y,A,B junk based on utterly inferior platform requirements type of xbox.
Unfortunately for real gamers ,today's market is caving in to populus that doesn't care about depth but how to faster beat the game and collect absolutely meaningless achievements. That is sad reality that we have to accept it .And no toolset?

2) Why now Signature edition, when we don't have even slightest idea how GP will be other then few trailer with consolized H&S combat and word that GP is like pathetic 30ish hours long?Do they need some extra funds(doubt it ) or they trying to capitalize before disclosing real game for some unknown reason?

3) I think you got on wrong forum to say anything even slightly negative about the game, since if you check majority posters can't even spell rogue correctly(rouge..lol),and they mostly caring about '  "oooo loocky pretty graphics"and "ooo how many LI's will look hot." Seriously you expect from someone that hold WoW as challenging game to demand something complex or better?

They may like the game , you may like the game and i may like the game in the end(or opposite) , but i sure won't buy it until i am positive that is not some sort of console low quality RPG pretender, graphics or sans graphics

That video is just the Lake Calenhad area which you have to enter in order to get to the Circle Tower.  How could you miss it?

I don't look at the sweeping landscape. You can't see that shot if you use isometric, and if you use OTS, you might just not catch that angle based on how you have the camera. You have to look for shots like that, actively, to get them.

Likewise the ceiling of the Ashes temple is featured in the cutscene with Genitivi.  If you don't have Genitivi along, you'll still have your companion saying something about being gobsmacked about the beautiful temple.  So I'm not understanding your examples.  And environment is part of graphics, too.

A remark is not the same as a camera pan, and then the game directly goes away from awe-inspiring scenery like that because of the character focus.

Basically, my point was that DA:O had some great scenery, but the camera actively works against seeing it.

As for the environment being part of graphics - I think it's a far, far less important part as compared to the character models themselves.

I... don't know what to say.  I look for things like that naturally, so I don't expect the game to shout at me LOOK OVER HERE.  Must be a function of traveling a lot.  Always look up.

I think it does look a little cartoony. I almost mistook the Exiled Prince trailer for something to do with the Sims. The plastic looking skin doesn't really help.

I do think it looks "too cartoony" for lack of a better word. Unlike most people in todays world I actually like browns and dark colors, I prefer them over, overly bright colors. I prefer realistic design and I like realistic dark fantasy then noble/bright fantasy. But its purely a personal opinion matter really. Neither style is superior.

I like both styles, but I also like how the colors of the game represent how the story is being told, as it is being told by a narattor and not in the now, the lack of a realistic look makes sense to me, sort of like the pages in a picture book from the time.

But isn't that what the 2D stylized cutscenes are for? To show off the whole picture book/tapestry vibe?

Except that they've said that the style is here to stay and the 'signature' of the series, not unique to the framed narrative. I could suck it up and deal if it was only for one game.

I dont think it looks too cartoony, really. But Merrill is bordering on looking like an anime elf. So I won`t bother using her in my party. Ever.

Im sorry what? They have confirmed that this style of art is going to be in the series future installments?

If what you say is true, ugh. I perish the thought.

I think the devs said, failry early on, that they were going for a style that would make people recognize it as being dragon age. Just by seeing a glimpse of a scene, or a screenshot.

Am I the only one who thinks this is somewhat reminiscent of the artwork make-over that Baldurs Gate went through between the first and second installment?

I've always prefered Baldurs Gate 2´s style anyway, so... yeah.

I think the art seen so far suits the game quite well. If it's anything like the little gameplay/conversations/cutscenes we've seen, I know that I'll be happy!

From what I've seen so far, I'm inclined to say "yes".  I will, however, reserve solid and final judgement when I actually play the game.

Really? You think that only PC gamers are real gamers? That's a rather selfish and elitist point of view, don't you think?

On topic, no, I like the new look.

Yeah, it looks overly cartoonish and not very realistic for such a type of game. I can only wonder why Bioware has chosen to go this way in terms of visuals. Moreover, character animations look kind of dull from what has been released so far. On the whole, I liked the look of the first DA game better.

To me it looks a bit cartoonish, especially Fenris; to me he's very anime style but I am no expert on anime. It's just the impression I get. In addition, the animations are too fast for my taste. However, the final product might be different and I'm sure DA2 will be great even if the graphics aren't 100% to my liking! ps. I like the colours thou...

Too cartoonish? It looks exactly like the first game except with more polish, and they changed the darkspawn and qunari to look more like their early concept art.

Every trailer released so far has had me completely failing to see how the graphics are in any way more cartoony than those from Origins.
The animations on the other hand looks more cartoony but since the original had people being hit with giant swords and surviving completely unharmed and getting hit by giant rocks and then just standing up again so who cares.
As for the new models the new Qunari are what they should have looked like from the beginning (anyone remembering the chantry woman in fort Drakon screaming at the utterly horrible sight of a somewhat tall black dude with white hair?), the new dragons are ugly while the old were my favourite dragons from any media ever and the new darkspawn looks like the artists intentionally wanted to destroy them. Especially blue ogres were the coolest thing ever to happen to Dragon age visually and replacing them with the ugliest "big troll" cliche ever is failblog worthy.
