The Witcher is an Action RPG, but PC orieniented, so it's a bit more complicated than most Action RPGs.

If you liked DAO, why didn't you try KOTOR? It's basically the same gameplay.
Or have you just seen videos on youtube and never actually tried it?

You've never even played Dragon Age, have you? Even though IMO ME2>DAO>ME1, DAO's writing far exceeds ME's.

RPGs are games like KOTOR, Dragon Age, Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, Planescape: Torment etc.
Action RPGs are games like ME, Oblivion, Fallout 3, Fable, Alpha Protocol, Deus Ex, Jade Empire etc.

And KOTOR does have a lot of combat, just not the twitchy console type

The Action RPG genre is a spin-off of the old style RPGs like Dragon Age (that are based on DnD mechanics) and is console oriented with dumbed down mechanics (less stats, less tactics etc).

The original concept of PC RPGs comes from Dungeon and Dragons and in every combat your STATS affect EVERYTHING, not the twitchy combat, games like ME or Fable have.

I too have played a lot of games. In fact, I've played probably every BioWare game to date as well. Mass Effect is by far the best game series I have ever played. Which is why I am hoping for a long, story rich franchise to continue on into the future of BioWare games. Mass Effect 1 & 2 as a whole literally stomps all other games into the dirt for me.

action rpg's are definitely the wave of the future. it mixes story and action very well. i purchased da:o, and returned it a fortnight later. regardless of story, i couldn't get past the battles. they are cheesy and made for people that like to play at a slow pace.

I loved Dragon Age too but played it to death and find it hard to get into again. I am daily torn between uninstalling it on my computer or playing it again but I dunno, ME2 is just so much more streamlined, etc. That said I am pretty psyched about DA2..

Eh? Are you kidding? That was the biggest critism Oblivion got from everyone. Try Morrowind first, then we'll talk

Ummmmmm, I did/have. IMO Morrowind is better, but Oblivion still isn't a "dumbed-down Action RPG", it's pretty hard to be an action-RPG when the combat sucks hehe.

The Mass Effect games are truly great games. However, I will not say it is the best ever simply because the trilogy is not over yet. I doubt Bioware will screw up the final chapter in Shepards story, but it's possible. If ME3 is as epic as we expect, then Mass Effect will be my favorite trilogy of all time.

No. While Mass Effect is currently my favorite series, I honestly do not know how much of that is because of it being the most recent one I have played. Do not get me wrong, I love just about everything about Mass Effect, but in my opinion, it is best to wait a few years and then see how the game still fares compared to everything else.



Conversely, nostalgia can also be a huge factor in loving a certain game, so really only time will tell.
