So I've played through ME1 about 6 or 7 times, and just started my fourth playthrough of ME2.  And I've been reading/posting on the forums on a regular basis.  What I've found is that I no longer care all that much about my once favorite character, and have diminised positive feelings about other characters that I once held in high regard.

I'm not sure what's causing this.  It's probably a combination of: (a) hearing the same character say the same things over and over again enough times that it's become boring, and (B) reading so many snarky comments about certain characters that I can no longer take them seriously.

Any one else feel this way?

You're bound to feel this way about what you used to love if you continue to watch and/or play them over and over again. There are a number of shows and movies that I've stopped watching(for now) because I've seen them too many times. My best advice is to just move on to something else for the time being.

Don't worry, you're just not the type for monogamy.

Thats why I tend to take extended breaks from my favorite games, not play them for months and then occasionally come back and beat it once just to keep my skill up and the story fresh. It also helps me forget the dialog somewhat so that its at least a little fresh to me. Try taking a break not just from the game but the forums as well and your love for your favorite character will reemerge.

Yeah, taking a break is probably a good idea. Although I've found that since I've been less enthusiastic about one particular character, I've developed a greater appreciation for certain others. So I dunno maybe that's a positive thing?

I don't get tired of my favorite characters, but I do get tired of games as a whole. After a few PTs, I generally play just for specific interactions with certain characters.

No, but I usually give a second change to the characters normally I ignore more. It was fun playing Horizon with Jack and listening the comments of someone who didn't know a f**k of Geths and Reapers for example... Also, the possible combinations of who brings with you in the missions and the possibility of choose different orderd to face them helps a lot to make the playtrhoughts less repetitive. My only always repeated thing is going on Heastrom immediaetely after Horizon, for obvious reasons :)

I don't get tired of Kaidan, Wrex, Jack, Joker, or Kasumi :) I did, however, start to dislike Tali and Garrus after seeing how grossly popular they are. I actually had to step back and remember why I liked them and not hold their popularity against them.

Not to do with Mass Effect characters, but I did end up disliking Buffy for similar reasons as the OP. That and the series should have ended when she died (heard some even say earlier, like when they finished High School).

Whose this formerly favourite character you're talking about here Marta Rio?

I started feeling this way about Tali actually. Garrus is still my bro, Mordin is still awesome, Legion is still wicked, and Jacob is still cool but my liking of Tali diminished over time (and about 12 PTs), mainly because her main attraction to me in ME1 was her combat prowess, packaged in the worst armor in the game for most of it. This was greatly diminished in ME2 and after the initial draw of her romance (which I didn't like all that much even though I did it for most of my PTs) I just sorta lost interest.

She wasn't as awesome after her combat skills got nerfed.

I will say that after 12 PTs I gained greater appreciation for Mordin, Jack, Samara, and Grunt while I lost appreciation for Miranda.

Familiarity breeds contempt. But one of the advantages to Mass Effect 2 is that you can find some hidden gems of dialogue simply by who you choose to bring with you on your missions, so, you know, take advantage of that. I assure you, your favorite character isn't going to hold it against you.

(Off-Topic: Agreed about Buffy. Angel was a doof, but that show was way better in the end.)

I'm getting tired of certain loyalty missions rather than characters. Samara and Thane? I either just skip those two or hold the spacebar down for the entirety. I didn't even do Miranda's loyalty mission on my last run (why bother? She'll live anyway)

I think I'm getting tired of Garrus even to the point of disliking him I've replayed ME1 and ME2 and noticed how both times, he doesn't have much in the way of dialogue. And in the group I'm in, a lot of them hate Garrus, and after explaining their reasons to me, I realize he's not as noble of a character as I thought.  This has further affected my opinion of him.
I still think Keener did an awesome job of being his VA though.

Starts with G, ends with S.  Lately I've been taking a shine to Zaeed, who's got some similarities to everyone's favorite Turian - a lust for revenge, a general air of badassery, sole survivor of dangerous missions, and even similar combat skills (concussive shot + rifles).

You shouldn't let other peoples opinion change your own on a certain character, if it was like that I wouldn't like anyone anymore reading these forums from time to time. It seems everyone has a hardcore following. o,o

I could never get tired of Tali and Garrus. Legion is an amazingly well crafted character as well. They're all so unique that I could read endless codex about their adventures if they existed. Even in game, since ME1 (obviously not Legion), they've been my favorites.

My favorite character is Samara, but she didn't become my favorite until I had played through several times and came to appreciate the depth of the character. And my favorite ME1 characters, Liara and Kaidan, were barely there in ME2, so I couldn't get tired of them. I sure got tired of Tali quick though, but I never liked her in the first place. I didn't actively dislike her in ME1, but between the bad-penny-ness of her showing up on Freedom's Progress and then the whole icky romance thing, I was just irritated that she was there at all. I never got tired of Garrus, but I did get tired of him giving me the "calibrations" brush-off. Seriously, they needed to give all the characters multiple brush-off lines, the way they did for Mordin.

Yup...agreed completely.
And Legion's should have been... "4 is less than 5", "5 is less than 6", "6 is less than 7", and "Seven ate Nine".

I got sick of Tali after ten playthroughs with her in my party for 2/3 of the game. The best remedy is to play with different characters (easy in ME2) and come back to them later. They all seem more interesting when you don't know them/ haven't seen them in a while.

You're not sure what's causing it? You've played the game so much that you're now bored with the content.. and you're surprised at this?

Just take a break from it, duh.

This.

On my canon run I basically held the spacebar down through both games because I was just sick of hearing people talk about stuff I already knew.

edit: Lasted longer than Dragon Age. Couldn't even play through that thing twice.

Sick of my favorite character? Won't happen. Miranda is just as fascinating as 11 months ago. Maybe even more so, since the picture in my mind has grown to be more complete.
