My lurking has shown that this forum is full of negativity and would have me believe this game will be a stinker- it's everywhere I look. Frankly some of the comments make me stupider. Personally, I’m feeling the exact opposite. I think this will be the real deal. And this from a person whose passion for RPG's stems from the Baldur's Gate saga, Planescape and Arcanum era so I'm part of the old firm. (Within reason)
In Dragon Age 2 I believe I am seeing the development of a franchise, one that isn't trying to be Baldur's Gate 3 and is at it's core designed to tell a story of the kirkwall champion. One that holds the world, and the action-consequence loop (over 10 years!) , immersion and some twisted storylines as the headliners not my woot D & D skills. In the original, I saw a game that was the spiritual successor to the Black Isle era of RPG gameplay, a big wet kiss to the fans. And I loved it. But, it just felt a little out of place. Neither giving me my statistical fix or a true reworking of how fantasy games are played. They launched a new world/ franchise and they did so with a homage to their past (Thank you guys for that- it was great). They needed to go into a specific direction with this next product. And the 10 year story is more glamorous than the HUD and my woot D &D skills. So an Isometric point of view is gone, I can't be an elf anymore and my PC's fight like ninja's in a more stylised world and my HUD isn't complete with combat log and basic arithmetic. This isn't 2001. And if they had included all that content it wouldn't help it win game of the year. Resources would have been drained and I wouldn't get the game that they’re trying to kick ass with. I wouldn’t get Bioware’s vision and make no mistake we will get the best product if Bioware reach their vision, not if we get ours as they’re the talent, not us.
That same company has now taken an engine they know inside out, a world that has been designed and a product that has a larger budget than the original. And they wanted to shake things up, Bioware are innovators afterall. They don't need to make Origins again, or Shadows Of Amn. Cause they already have. The genre needs to further cement itself as a blockbuster genre- otherwise the corporates don't make the money and the industry can't give me dragon Age 3, 4 and 5. Ironically the development cycle of this game can draw comparison to BG 2. And we all know how many people liked that. Logic tells me DA 2 will be a better product than origins, maybe significantly better. For every departure from the traditional hardcore RPG build I've seen in Dragon Age 2 I can think of advantages- and I trust Bioware. Except for no area of effect damage to my team, that was odd. I can't begin to imagine how well this story will be told, and I'm OK without seeing too many numbers.
Either way don't be a hater. Be an innovator.
Good Luck with the final stages of development!

Seems more like everybody's either fangirling over certain characters or are stating how good the game looks.

I'm not saying that we should all hail Bioware & agree with everything that they do. But sometimes the posts here come across to me as just a way to incite anger, and I'm not talking about just the topic, but the manner that people reply to posts/ideas which disagree with their own personal beliefs. There's nothing wrong with standing up or expressing something you believe in, but I think we can do it in a less hostile, more diplomatic manner.
Sorry for the long rant. And yeah, kudos to you Bioware. I cannot wait for Dragon Age 2

To be honest, at first, I was with those hostile people.
Then I took off my tinted shades, and I realized how bias I was being.
It's not worse than DA:O, it's different.
In fact, I think It's going to set the standard for BioWare games, it's going to be amazing.
Kudos to you BioWare, I love each and every one of you.

I haven't seen any negative criticism in this forum except for the "Do you think DA2 is to cartoony?" thread, and even then, it could be a legit complaint.
No offence but you haven't been looking or you haven't been here long enough. The criticism here has been virulent at times.
As for the OP, well said.

Uh yeah, when the game was first announced there was moral panic. It's probably a good thing you didn't witness the ridiculousness.
I couldn't agree more with the OP. People just can't stand change, and the game doesn't seem all that different to me, honestly. It still has the tactical approach to the game. I really wish people would at least give it a chance, play it for a while, and then sure, they can complain all they want about how it didn't meet their expectations (and honestly, I think it's going to be an excellent game).
Bioware was merely responding to all of the complaints of the very people that are complaining now. They complained that they got to pick a 'voice', yet the character wasn't voiced. So in response, their character will now be voiced. I think Hawke being voiced is a great thing. I've noticed that Shepard has a much larger role in the conversation than silent protagonists who can only respond with one sentence every so often.
So in conclusion, don't judge the game until you play it gaiz. It's going to be amazing (at least I think so anyway).

I'm looking forward to a game that will achieve exactly what the developers have set out to achieve, capitalizing upon and honing DA:O's strengths while re-imagining and improving its weaknesses. I am confident Bioware will be able to do this.
Further, I know that DA2 is not DA:O. I think this is a good thing--not because I think DA:O was a bad game (I would never waste months of my life on a game I hate), but because the series cannot remain stagnant. There will probably be things I prefer about DA:O, but I'll wait to see.
Most of all, I'm glad that some fans on here are taking the time to express gratitude for Bioware's hard work. For better or worse, these games are a huge part of our lives, yet it seems all too easy to lose sight of how things would be different if they weren't around. I, for one, am thankful to have been able to go on such an impacting journey as I did in Origins. But I can't wait to start fresh in March.
EDIT: Wow, I suck at formatting.

I do not believe the changes made to DA:2 from DA:O are an improvement in my perspective.

And what the hell is that about, anyway? Do you need a label to enjoy something? It's... It's about shelf-placement, isn't it? And here I was organizing my games alphabetically like a fool. A FOOL!

Let’s not forget like BG, Planescape & all the other great classics, that DA:O will still be there once this game is on the market, and there is nothing to stop players from still enjoying it if this doesn’t meet their expectations.

To be honest, you're always going to see "I Hate..." Threads way outnumber the "I love..." Threads.

That's it.
It's as easy as "If you like it, play it... otherwise, don't". Nobody forces these people to buy SE edition and praise the game. :/
