Hi, I'm not sure if someone has already asked this, but I couldnt find anything about it.
I played DAO through once without any problems. About 6 months later I'm trying to play it again but it doesnt seem to want to work properly. I can play it for up to 10 or 15 mins ok,  but then everything just starts going really slow and I have to turn it off. I've removed my previous game but it doesnt help.
Anyone else had this problem and know what to do?

Thanks

I am sure someone would be happy to help, but you really need to give a little more information.  Let's start with what your computer hardware is like, what OS you're running, and what you have the game patched to.

In lieu of that, I'd suggest you make sure you have the latest graphics drivers installed.  You mentioned you removed your "previous game"... assuming these are old saves, you might was well go ahead and uninstall the game and re-install it clean.  Don't forget to patch to ver. 1.04.

Thanks for the reply. I'll try re-installing it first.

Where do I get the patch?

Sorry I'm not too on to it with computers so I'm not sure what my hardware is like. All I know is that I've got Windows Vista. It's not the flashest computer but it worked well enough the first time I played DA.

Thanks

Ah. Vista get's a bad rap sometimes. I actually liked Vista for business applications, but for gaming, it can cause problems. I agree with your decision to reinstall... I suggest you uninstall everything, then before you put Dragon Age back on your computer, run a Disk Cleanup on your hard drive. You can do this by going into Explorer, selecting "C" drive, and right clicking on it. Select "Properties" and on the General tab, you'll see an option for Disk Cleanup. Go into it and put a checkmark by everything-- Vista tends to accumulate a lot of junk over time.

Once you're ready to reinstall Dragon Age, do it. If you have the Awakening expansion, do that too. Install the 1.04 Patch BEFORE you start the game.

It can be found here:

Good luck!

Well I tried what you suggested above, but it's still running slowly... Darn it!

The only other suggestion I can make is to lower your graphics settings. Try lowering the resolution and turning off the Anti-aliasing function, if it's on.

Without any hardware and driver info to go on it's impossible to work out the problem.

Yeah I've tried lowering my graphics settings. but that doesnt help.

I'm not sure why hardware and diver info would help (as it was fine the first time I played it) But I'll see if I can figure out what it is....

Ok, I'm not sure if this is what you want to see but I found the following info...

Hardware: AMD Turion 64x2 TL 62

clock speed: 2100 mhz

1.93 gb

Display adapter: NVIDIA MCP67M

VRAM: 64mb

Driver version: 156.65

Is that any help or was that the wrong hardware??

Thanks

Did you update the game when you came back to it after the 6 months? If its not running as well now as it did back then it could be conflicts with the newest patch.

Ah... well... I'm not well versed in laptop specs, but I suspect you're just at the threshold for the game's minimum requirements, if not a little below. I know that doesn't account for the change if it was running okay before. Just out of curiosity, how much free space do you have on your hard drive? Is it crammed?

The only other thing I can think of is that something is running in the background. You may want to look at what other software you've installed in the last few months. Anything that's using resources will impact game play dramatically on your machine.

That's Geforce 7150M graphics, after Googling.  I'm not sure how it wouldn't have been slow before, because that graphics adapter would be expected to run the game slowly, even on Low.  I'm sorry to say that, but I wouldn't expect much improvement.  Did you make sure to set all settings to minimum and try lowering the resolution if possible?
