This is the truth.

People frequently read their hopes or fears into David's comments. Look at the original same-sex romance thread. People took David saying that same-sex romances aren't a given as evidence that there would be none in DA 2.

Now he's saying that if they really wanted to bring a character back, they would. That doesn't mean they have.

I just want the announcement to be made so we can get the squealing and shouting over with.

So what Graider is saying is Screw the epilogue?

If Anders dies, then he stays dead.

How is this a shock to anyone?  They've done it before.  Shoot, they've done it before in the Dragon Age franchise no less.

Dead Oghren in Origins?  Doesn't stop him from showing up at Vigil's Keep.  Your warden who killed him can even ask, and he'll make a joke about it!

They've already proven, without any doubt whatsoever, that a character being dead in one potential epilogue makes no difference if they want to bring that same character back for whatever reason.

I don't know if it's Anders or not.  I hope it is, but really, for any old companions saying they might be dead in one of the epilogues is not a valid reason to say they won't be in DA2.

That's exactly the problem. Those were both cases of shoehorning old characters in where they aren't neeeded.

I don't think this would be a case of shoehorning. I'm starting to suspect they made Awakening with the DA2 storyline in mind. How coincidental could it be that Nathaniel spent years living in the very city where DA2 is set? And that, seemingly at random, they made an epilogue connecting Anders to Isabella, who then shows up in DA2.

Shoot, even Velanna seemed to know the Dalish elf's clan, recognizing them by sight, and now one of their clan members is probably a companion.

None of these things are huge, but there's an awful lot of small coincidences connecting Awakening to what we know of DA2 piling up.

@Atakuma & Maselphie I'm not eyerolling at you. Perfectly valid opinion - to not want Anders in DA2 - I can totally see why if you're not an Anders fan you'd rather have a whole new character. But the argument that he was dead in Awakenings just doesn't hold water.

At least Ogrhen took a humorous spin to it, and Wynne actually stays dead, I would ask for confirmation but I konw this for a fact.

Whatever Bioware, keep ****ting on your own lore.

I like how everyone is like BUT HE'S DEAD, but he only dies if you fail to upgrade Vigil's Keep. Which most people didn't.

@RinjiRenee And if you're not a Spirit Healer, chances are pretty much everyone takes him with them to fight the Mother, cos God knows I'm not going into that pit without my healer mage :). Hell, if I'm a spirit healer, I still take him. And not just because I like him!

The epilogue where Anders dies can be explained away. The body found wasn't him. They thought he was dead, but a spirit healer was able to revive him. He faked his death to get away from Templars once and for all.

Not that I'm saying that he is or isn't coming back, but all it would take is one line explaining away his epilogue text in Awakening...and since your character would not have been at Vigil Keep, they really can't question it.

The only thing I'm sure of is that we're getting a human male mage companion. Which is fine with me, whether he's Anders or not.

And on that note, I'm going to say that he'll be the "Healer" mage in DA2. ;)

Then all the ME2 characters should be playable in ME3, right?

What about those of us who are Anders fans and still want someone new?  Or the ones that are Anders fans and agree that his potential death should exclude him from inclusion?

I don't think the potential must mean he's excluded but it should mean that. The same way it should have meant Oghren and Wynne wouldn't be in Awakening. The fact that they were shouldn't be a precident it should be a one-off screw up that doesn't get repeated...

Probably, but that's up to the writers.  Gaider said it, not me!

@Jimmy Fury Bioware does not exist to cater for the wishes of everyone, much as they might like to, it's simply not possible to please everyone!
I want Anders in DA2, but I won't feel cheated or enraged or disappointed with the GAME if he isn't. I might feel slightly sad that I won't get to see my favourite DA character again, but I'm pretty sure DA2 will still be great, and if it isn't it won't be because Anders isn't there.

Edited to add: Also, the epilogues are more flexible than in-game death IMO. Easier to explain away. The epilogues are also written in the vein of the codexes - which are all written as hearsay, or part of a history, or a book. The Awakenings epilogues (and the Origins ones) are written like they're part of the Warden's "legend". They are not set in stone, as DG has said repeatedly. They will be very, VERY easy to explain away, if it's needed.

I like you.  You are quite reasonable!  I think we're just a little hopeful to see Anders, or at least one companion that was playable from Origins/Awakening.  Others have their opinions about that issue and no one is saying that they're wrong about it, either.

If he's a companion fine, but if you import a game where he's dead...well he's dead.

And about faking his death, you don't fake a ****ing arrow in your neck.

If they want him back he'll be back, no sense in raging about it.  Maybe Justice traded in for a newer model.

I thought it could have been a good side quest to turn Wynne in as an abomination.   But then they patched the bug.
