I'm having some weird problems with the ME2 Shepard I'm currently playing. It started with being unable to load the career, which I seem to have fixed; but now I'm unable to save.

Everything was going fine until a few hours ago. I had just started on the final mission, after EDI notifies you that the IFF is up and running, when the game locked up at the loading screen. I restarted the Xbox, but any attempt to reload the game just produced more lockups. I finally decided to use USB XTAF to transfer the save files to my PC to see what was going on.

On the PC, I found out that the ChapterSave.xbsav file, which I presume is the "restart mission" save, was missing. Not knowing what else to try, I copied one of the other saves to ChapterSave.xbsav and transferred the lot back to the Xbox. This fixed the problem of being unable to load, although the game skipped past the whole cutscene where the collectors board the Normandy and put me right in the shoes of Joker.

Since then though, I've been unable to create new saves. In fact, if I die in the collector base, rather than reloading from the usual save point I get pulled back to the Joker part. That suggests that the game is also not making autosaves like it should.

I've also noticed that I can copy this career to my USB stick, unlike all the other careers which I can only move. So maybe the Xbox thinks this career is "locked" or another player's for some reason? Would that be why it refuses to modify the career? If so, how do I fix this?

Background: I was fiddling with Gibbed's save editor with this career, basically to reinstate all my upgrades on a newgame+ (the first time I've tried modding a save file, in fact). Nothing bad had happened prior to this, as far as I can tell.
