As we have learnend cassandra is a Seeker an elite unit of Chantry Soliders/Agents under the direct command of the Divine in Orlais. Not only that she is a pentagahst (think thats how it's spelled) a member of the Navarren Royal Family.

From my own insight in dragon age origins and the novels I have reason to believe the Chantry is biased towards Orlais. It's often in the habbit of Justifying Orlais action in the name of the maker.

Orlais and Nevarra are bitter enimies so why is a member of the Navarren Royal family under the direct command of a key figure in Thedas politics?. Is she loyal to the Divine?. Is she loyal to her family or does she have her own motivations for joining the seekers ?

She stole the original Seeker's clothes after knocking her out. She's really just a raging Hawke fangirl.

Came in one morning with a new face, and everyone was like "Hey, have you done something with your hair?"

you may find out that she is nothing but a framing device in DA2 . Her motivations matter very little so they may never be explained....

that's probably because that's where their main headquarters is.

Bitter enemies may be a stretch, but I thought they were fighting over a stretch of mines or something.

I don't think it matters though, as we don't know how high Cassasndra may be in Nevarran succession, or if they have woman rulers in the first place, and Nevarrans probably beleive in the Maker, so regardless of where the Chantry HQ is, she would still be working for the Chantry, which would probably, indirectly be helping Nevarra anyway.

In 8:70 Blessed, a war between Nevarra and Orlais over the control of the western hills around Perendale results in Nevarran victory. However, Orlais proceeds to sow dissent and rebellion among the locals in Perendale, who resent Nevarran rule. << at least according to the Prima Official Guide

also there was a war between them in 5:37 Exalted and Nevarra was conquered by Orlais in 3:25 but I know you already know all of that, so... what you're saying is that's changed now?

wars never last forever, the enemy of yesterday is the ally of today and vice versa.

someone else said it best (starting from 2 minutes mark)

Well, he contended the words bitter enemies.

I mean, the US are not enemies with Germany, Japan, or Russia right now. . .so eh.

A very different scenario.

but according to the lore and Codexes, I was under the impression that, at the very least, relations between the two countries was highly tense and less than friendly.

Chantry is supposedly an extta-national organization, that holds sway and influence that goes beyond national borders. However, they do seem to be favorable towards Orlais more than most. the Orlesians started the Chantry as an organization, continue to host it, and I'm willing to bet the Chantry will be more inclined to side with Orlais in most situations.

Interesting then, if a member of the oryal family of Nevarra is part of an organization highly loyal to the Divine, who in turn, is probably highly favorable towards orlais.

I love how we're all telling Dave that his view of the world he created is wrong. With cold hard fact, no less.

Rivals then. Wasn't there a war that ended recently? and Orlais was sturring up the populace to rebel?

Wasn't Nevarra originally a territory that Orlais occupied but Nevarra rebelled. Don't chevalliers stop brother genitivi from entering Nevarra.

Or have i gotten this totally wrong?

Nope. Got that codex entry on my millionth playthrough yesterday. Brother Genitivi wasn't allowed to enter Nevarra from the Orlesian side, and had to take the long way around to marvel at Nevarra's splendour. I don't think David is wrong disputing that they're bitter enemies, but I don't imagine they're friends.

Then again, Ferelden and Orlais seem to be on okay terms right now, and they've just come out of a pretty nasty war/occupation/war-again period just 20-30 years ago, so who knows what the relations between Orlais and Nevarra are...

Its hard to gague exactly the nature of ferelden/Orlesian relations, with what happened in Origins with Loghain. In Awakening, its hinted the Orlesian Empress was not terribly happy about the Wardens and Chevalier being turned back at the border.

But one difference is that Ferelden is not a powerful, stable country in the way Nevarra is, and as such, does not pose a direct threat to Orlais. Nevarra, apparantly, does.

It seems to me as a member of the seekers she could have acess to highly benifitial information to Nevarra. Or if she's not welcome in Nevarra she would have information for the chantry and by extension Orlais

She's meant to be really important in DA3. If you ask me, she becomes the new Divine or has a lot of power over templars.

Cassandra for Player Character on DA 3.
Because seeing the progression, it's the next logical step.
(Hooray for baseless extrapolations!)

They actually let you choose who will be your main character: Varric or Cassandra. You'll have the same maps but different skills to navigate them, with Cass being an in-your-face warrior and Varric going all "faffing about creed" through rooftops.
