I mean, I guess we don't but you can't really use that word to describe Isabela. Or Aveline. And it wouldn't apply to Bethany since she's off-limits. So by process of elimination I'm not seeing too many other candidates.

The only thing about the video which is bothering me is their talk about consequences again. Really? We will feel drastic Consequences? As drastic as we did in Dragon Age?

No, one of the things the devs have said is that the framing story and the 10 year time span allows them to show choices and their consequences.

I noticed a mouse arrow gliding over the reply wheel in the scene(s) with Isabela. I'm not sure if all of it is from the PC, though.

So I see Aveline, Leandra, Carver, and Male Hawke. Perhaps this is Isabela's ship on the way to Kirkwall.

And the NPCs  are  lying down, sitting down (PC, too)... awesome.  Looking forward to seeing more.

And I think most other peoples issue is with the new elf design.

Bingo.

Its just creepy looking and rather off putting to have Merrill from Origins appear like an adult elven woman and now to look like a 12 year old girl with DDs tacked on=

I don't care much for the new Elven design if Merrill is indicitive of it either- its just more generic looking fantasy than anything they had in Origins and goes into creepy territory.

I think she stands out as weird-looking because of how exaggerately tall and muscular most of the other characters are. Considering the ever-increasing trend for uberyouthful anime characters in most RPGs today (including the western ones), it doesn't shock me that much, I still find her cute in a fragile kind of way. To me she could be in her early twenties. But it does feel off when you see the generic human look. That's why I wish my Hwake could be more Fenris-like without the pointy ears. Because IRL, we're one race with different looking people, and not three races of generic looking people.

Had to look at that a few times.  Thanks, BW, I’m officially stoked for the game. Some random observations.

1. Hawke’s voice is good, not spectacular, but good.  I think it has the potential to grow on me. (Would like to hear LadyHawke’s voice at some point).
2. Carver looks and sounds much better than I expected.  I like that there could be conflict between siblings and I love the whole family aspect.
3. Both Isabella and Aveline look great!  Cassandra is hot w/ black hair.
4. Merrill/Dalish Elf girl is cute in a “read her a bedtime story” kind of way. Kind of weird to think she might be a LI though.  It’s the “big eye/little nose/anime chick” look that does it.
5. The characters look a little too angular for me, kinda ‘90s Image Comics, (which I hated), but I can live w/ it.
6. The architecture is amazing.  I’m loving every aspect of the city and rooms that I see.
7.  I love all the armor and the clothes, w/ the exaction of that blasted hood ornament that sticks out of (Warriror?)Hawke’s chest.
8. Now can we hear LadyHawke?

I think it's pretty obvious, since they start talking about romances... and they say "from virginal girl next door" as Merrill is shown, then go onto say "crazy up against the wall let's have it on right here" when Isabella is shown.

Frankly, if you don't see that then you're in denial. ;)

My impressions:

- David Gaider seemed a lot less scary irl. Sorry :)

- Was that an Australian accent on Aveline?

- Merill looks very petite, but then again so was Tali.

- Overall shaping up to surpass all of my expectations.

I quite like the new elven look. They look far more distinct this time, so I can actually tell if I'm speaking to a human or an elf. Just for clarification, who will be Merrill's VA?

I am sorry. I just realised, they must have not shown Merrill - the unconfirmed until now companion - for any reason when talking about romances. Infact, the virginal girl next door comment clearly relates to Anders, who will surely be announced right after this comment.

There's no assumption to it, it's clearly what they said.

There was cackling. Gleeful cackling.

 Damn that dwarf's infernal charm! I will not be seduced! I will--I will cruelly shave his chest hair while he sleeps, like Delilah did to Samson, causing his troubling charisma to dissipate!

Honestly, his voice is just awesome, and his face just wasn't done justice by earlier screenshots. I never quite thought I'd be saying this, but I wouldn't mind if he was an LI.

Imagine how sweet it would be if we had our pick between Fenris, Sebastian, Anders and Varric. That would be insane. I know it won't happen, and if it did I'd be worried it would resemble the very short romances in ME2 anyway, but what a lovely 'racially' diverse man-harem that would be!

Then again, Isabela, Aveline, and the elf girl all appear to be romanceable, so who knows?

And I think most other peoples issue is with the new elf design.

Her boobs are unusually large for her skinny frame, but it doesn't bother me as much as it otherwise would when I consider the City Elf origin. It would certainly explain all the more why creeps like Vaughan are drawn to elven women. Having a body type that, to humans, looks both ultra-youthful and ultra-fertile would draw sexual interest of exactly the wrong kind. It's sort of dark, really. Troubling to contemplate. Still, the boobs are a bit outrageous, not just slightly over the top but noticeably over the top. But other than the way too large boobs, I think she's just adorable.

I thought the use of the word virginal was pretty creepy. I don't know if there are many non-creepy uses for it. :\\\\\\\\

Alistair was virginal, but I never felt creepy romancing him; then again, he looked much older than this girl. We don't know what they have planned, though. It might be cute if she was utterly oblivious to romantic advances for the first 5 years Hawke knows her or something like that. Despite how she looks, her attitude and how she's handled will make all the difference in whether what romance may exist for her ends up feeling creepy or not.

I'm not really certain playing the sex card is justified. Every reveal has been 'picked apart', analyzed, praised, and criticized irrespective of gender.

Sorry, but that's not true at all. Female characters have always been disproportionately picked apart -- usually by male fans, though not always -- than male characters. There's probably lots of reasons for that, but it's been pretty consistently true for many games now.

Male characters get picked apart equally. Well, maybe picked apart is not the right word, but they are mercilessly judged for their appearance by people. Just generally in a positive way involving fan art and cult-like dedication from followers. xD

I love Hawke's Country Club attire. Seems to facilitate seduction.

All the changes that have been made from Origins, in terms of presentation- the fruit of those changes are fully revealed in this trailer. The Warden's silence, inability to interact with other characters in a physical sense, the detachment, it all kept me from feeling a more powerful emotional connection to the game and the characters. The writers and developers obviously saw this, and I think the changes are brilliant. Thoughts:
  • If that's Inon Zur's score in the background, he's stepped up his game considerably. About 3/5ths of the way through the trailer, when... Laidlaw (or whomever is speaking) starts describing DA2 as a journey through time, not across the land, the score feels more emotional and sweeping, a fitting match to the game, and the concept he's describing. I'm just really big on score and sound work- a good score can make a piece of work, in my opinion.
  • In that section, we also see moments of focus on the characters, on Aveline and Hawke, and it reinforces the notion of depth in personal development and interaction. I believe that for what DA2 supposedly lacks in "depth" due to the erasure of origins choices and silent protagonist (as some in the community have), it will "make up for" in the emotion depth and scope of the story and characters.
  • Restricting the PC to human has one fundamental effect: Hawke can now interact with others and the environment just as intimately as Shepherd could interact with hir crewmembers in ME2. Getting pinned by Grunt, the romance scenes, of course- especially the premature scene w/ Jack- this is now possible in Dragon Age, and we're seeing it in the kills, romances.. excellent.
  • Voice acting sounds distinctive, transitions between backstory and frame seem (if it's not just trailer trickery) organic and original, object interaction (Cassandra and Varric, the knife & the book, papers and letters picked up and used [featured prominently in the Sebastian Trailer]... home runs. Also impressive to see bits of what I assume to be the entering Kirkwall scene, on boat. I had wondered if this would be rendered in-game or out, a-la ME2's frequent & well executed video sequences (save for the gapping).
  • Only potential downsides could be... rather bland colors, but better than Origins. Even Qunari blood fountain looks like it's been made less bold or something. Not a large concern.
Also not large concerns- Disgruntlement over: Merrill's Breasts/Size, Isabela/Bethany's Breasts, Repeated NPCs (Often standing directly behind/next to eachother), Aveline's "Mannishness".
  • Pertaining to the male/female criticism theme, I find it odd that no poster has expressed concern over the girth of Hawke & Carver's arms. They make me uncomfortable with my masculinity, accentuate the clash between Carver's cute bunny face and Man's Man voice, and frankly, will drive me to cancel my preorder out of righteous scorn.

I've been unsure about the whole thing so far because I love Origins so much and I was just unsure about the story and to be honest not too excited about the "LI" characters. Anyway, this video gave a bit more information and I have to say so far it seems good. I just hope they're able to pull it off. I WANT to love this game as much as the first one!
