And are we going to see any place outside of Kirkwall?

Yeah, the way in which it was mentioned in the video how in Origins we travelled the land yet in DA2 we travel mostly forward in time makes it seem like we will indeed be mostly staying in Kirkwall for the vast majority of the game. Which, even if its Athkatla sized big, thats really disappointing.

Big time. I equate a certain amount of exploration and traveling with fantasy rpgs. Its just fun to see and experience different areas. I like the 10 year bit, I really do. But if we're traipsing around the same area, it will feel recycled.

DA 2 will be ultra lame if you stay in Kirkwall most of the time. That's really, really disappointing. Especially if it's not even a free roaming city. It will probably be like Denerim where you travel to different map points. Lame.

I'll have to see the Metascore before I buy now. Glad I didn't get duped into pre-ordering the Signature Edition now. :D

It would be like Baldurs Gate 2 in that regard, and we all know how terrible that game was. :P

Some trap, pre-ordering without any obligations to actually buy the game, and getting free extra content if you do.

Some would even say it's devilish

I am really liking the new look of the game.  I think it just looks a lot more interesting than DAO did.

As for the story, I am pretty excited that they are focusing their story on a specific location, one much more localized than DAO even, and focusing on how that area changes over time.  I dont think ive played a game that has done something like thhat, so pretty excited.  Plus, I really think that should work well with the personalized, character focused story that they are apparently trying to tell.

Plus, I usually prefer games that are limited to a city and its surroundings or a province to one that lets you explore the whole world because usually one that lets you traverse the world has a save the world storyline, and I am right sick of those.

Other positives would definitely be the voice acting.  The world looks fantastic and I like the looks of the characters a lot.

The only thing i found rather ridiculous was the scene at the 1:45 mark when everyone is whooping, hoping up and down, and flailing their arms around.  I really did not like those animations - it just felt unnatural - but maybe itll look better in context, with sound.

Well, Mr. Gaider asked me to use this thread rather than make another one, so I'll repost my thoughts here:

Well, just had the pleasure of watching the new video Bioware gave us.  Having done so, my thoughts:

First, appreciation for the new info.  New info is good.

Now, the good:

1.  Confirmation that Merrill is a companion.  I like learning of new companions, so that's good.
2.  Indication that there can be some clash between Hawke and siblings (see Carver mentioning they were running from "YOUR templars")  I've been hoping for this, and I'm very glad it's there.  I'll assume it's true for Beth as well.
3.  It was just a snippet, but I kind of like Isabela's VA (whoever she is, I'm sure someone will tell me).
4.  Indication that companions may not be constant - see, the comment involving Aveline ("been a while since I saw you")
5.  I think I love Cassandra - great look, very nice voice snippet, and her flat out [swearing] to Varric - I loved it!!!

The bad:

1.  Carver doesn't look much better.
2.  Marrill - those ears . . .and those proportions . . is she a caricature?
3.  Still not liking the new look Isabela.
4.  No Fenris voice????

The ugly:

1.  Ummm, MaleHawke's voice.  Really?  I have to listen to that all game?
2.  The blood smear.  I mean, come on.

Does Hawke have to have a blood smear across his face or is that optional?

Man, I love Hawke's voice. I would like to hear why people don't like it, as I think quite a few don't.

Actually, you can't pre-order unless you pre-pay the full $60 price in full. So yeah, that is

First thanks to OP for posting this & to Bioware for the new vid. I personally am getting more & more excited for DA2. Can't wait for March to kick in. What really excited me is the storyline, I'm a sucker for good stories on RPGs, otherwise a game would just feel like a stylized action adventure game.

As for the comments about graphics, companions etc...I'm reserving judgement on those until I've had the full game experience. IMO, one can't really give a good review of a movie if one has only seen the trailer.

All in all, still happy about pre-ordering & can I say it again...I can't wait for March!

It's optional.

Why on earth they thought we'd want that is beyond me.

I think my favorite thing so far is that they actually have objects in their hands. When Varric throws the pouch at Hawke, it's an actual pouch and not "animations vaguely suggesting a throw and a catch from the shoulders up". The twirling of the arrow, the book, the knife... me like.

How many times must they say it. The smear is OPTIONAL. Just make a char without it and voila you don't have to look at it again.

you do know the angle of the screen made it so that her bust appeared larger than it should have been.

This.  I described it as "flat" but I think we mean the same thing.

As far as number 4 (in your "good" column), based on what the developers were saying when that was happening I was under the impression that the scene took place directly after a "time jump."  So I'm not sure if that means the companions will be constant or not.  As for the rest, I largely agree except I like both Carver's looks (enough that I've switched my first playthrough choice to a mage) and Hawke's voice.  I HATE the blood smear, but it's optional supposedly.  It looks like he tried to paint on a fake moustache and missed.
