Actually, you can't pre-order unless you pre-pay the full $60 price in full. So yeah, that is

Funny how I pre-ordered the Signature Edition for $40 Australian then.

I don't live in Australia.

Yeah the blood smear is a bit over the top right? Like "Oooh look at me, I'm so dangerous and bad". Theatrics.

My Hawke will just walk up and flatten you. No theatrics necessary.

DA 2 will be ultra lame if you stay in Kirkwall most of the time. That's really, really disappointing. Especially if it's not even a free roaming city. It will probably be like Denerim where you travel to different map points. Lame.

I'll have to see the Metascore before I buy now. Glad I didn't get duped into pre-ordering the Signature Edition now. :D

It would be like Baldurs Gate 2 in that regard, and we all know how terrible that game was. :P

Never played Baldur's Gate 2. Don't care.

wow did you just said you dont care about biowares greatest game ? and the greatest game of all time? i feel sorry for you and i love how you make assumptions

1.  Confirmation that Merrill is a companion.  I like learning of new companions, so that's good.
2.  Indication that there can be some clash between Hawke and siblings (see Carver mentioning they were running from "YOUR templars")  I've been hoping for this, and I'm very glad it's there.  I'll assume it's true for Beth as well.
3.  It was just a snippet, but I kind of like Isabela's VA (whoever she is, I'm sure someone will tell me).
4.  Indication that companions may not be constant - see, the comment involving Aveline ("been a while since I saw you")
5.  I think I love Cassandra - great look, very nice voice snippet, and her flat out [swearing] to Varric - I loved it!!!

The bad:

1.  Carver doesn't look much better.
2.  Marrill - those ears . . .and those proportions . . is she a caricature?
3.  Still not liking the new look Isabela.
4.  No Fenris voice????

The ugly:

1.  Ummm, MaleHawke's voice.  Really?  I have to listen to that all game?
2.  The blood smear.  I mean, come on.

As far as number 4 (in your "good" column), based on what the developers were saying when that was happening I was under the impression that the scene took place directly after a "time jump."  So I'm not sure if that means the companions will be constant or not.  As for the rest, I largely agree except I like both Carver's looks (enough that I've switched my first playthrough choice to a mage) and Hawke's voice.  I HATE the blood smear, but it's optional supposedly.  It looks like he tried to paint on a fake moustache and missed.

Could be.  I'm hoping, though, that over the course of 10 years, my companions may have other things to do, and that some may not be sitting around waiting for Hawke to pick them for the team this time.  I like that idea, I think.

Carver looks better than in the original still image, but still lacks expression, IMO.

Hawke's voice, clearly completely subjective, but doesn't do it for me.  It's like watching a movie, and constantly thinking "they should have had actor X instead".

So... I need to spell it out I guess. Games in Australia are more expensive than the US so you should have been able to pre-order it for less than the $60. Inn fact I''m pretty sure I remember feedback on here about pre-ordering it for way less than $60.

Wait, the guy who is always talking smack about DA 2 is trying to pre-order it? Riiight.

Anyway, my impressions:

Merrill is tiny! But sort of cute.

Varric and Cassandra have some serious sexual tension going on.

Can't decide if I am going to like Cassandra or not, she's a bit too domineering.

Carver has a hawt voice and he is looking a lot better.

Actually, all the voices sound pretty good to me but when do we get to hear LadyHawke?

Isabela romance, do want, yes please! Tell me she's just as awesome for the f/f romance!

Not

Seriously.
I bet it's going to be like NWN 2 for me. After my PC joined the city watch and was doing missions for them, I kept saying to my brother over my shoulder that it was sooo obvious Captain Brelaina and Cormick secretly just wanted to do each other. All that hostility between them reeked of sexual tension. I bet they were all over each other the second my PC left the room. :D

From the looks of it I won't be able to help myself wondering what's going on behind with the scenes with Cassandra and Varric. ^_^ I expect Varric to make some very suggestive comments to her about her aggression and pent up frustration with him - he seems like the type to do that.

:o

Okay, that was awesome. My reactions:

0:35 - Awesome use of props! I've mentioned this elsewhere, but it felt really jarring not to have it so much in DAO
1:06 - I don't think Wesley looked that good (well not GOOD...he looks like hell, but that in itself is good) at PAX.
1:13 - Murderknife!
1:20 - I love Hawke's voice, but he could work on his delivery. I think the more detailed facial animations (which I believe we heard were among the last things added) will help greatly though.
1:35 - Again with the props...this is something we never saw the like of in Origins. Actual boats sailing...water animation...awesome.
2:01 - No way, The Usual Suspects AND The Princess Bride?! I kid, I kid.
2:08 - Interesting...I was under the impression Cassandra went to Varric to hear the story. Looks like he might not exactly be there of his own free will.
2:13 - Props!
2:18 - Yay! Cassandra's hair is black again! It looks way better like this.
2:19 - Props!
2:51 - I love these transitions (this and also the one we saw at PAX, right before Cassandra calls "bullsh*t"). Also, Cassandra is smokin' right here...I think it's the dark eyes. Makes you want to get in line to be interrogated.
2:53 - Yeah, I think they used it in The Usual Suspects and The Princess Bride. I heard that somewhere.
3:02 - Okay Varric/Brian Bloom does have a pretty awesome voice, I have to admit it. Kinda...smoky and smooth.
3:23 - Aww, I really like Aveline.
3:29 - Ooh, Fenris! And angry Fenris. Pound-the-table angry Fenris even!
3:41 - Isabela's voice is nice.
3:49 - Interesting new look for Elves. She seems a lot more...sharply angled than Fenris, though. Looks odd at first, but it looks more natural near the end of that clip. Definitely gonna need more than a couple seconds to truly judge it though.
3:53 - :o:wub:
4:14 - And there's Carver's voice. I think they really got one that sounds like a younger version of Boulton's. Now someone figure out who it is (and Isabela and Aveline while you're at it).

5 minutes of pure squee right there. The next two months are going to be interminable. I wish I could be a little more objective about this, but honestly I'm just excited.

People who are complaining about Hawke's lack of emotion in his voice are forgetting just why PCs usually are voiceless and have minimal expression. It's so you can roleplay, hence 'roleplaying game.' If Hawke was emoting all over the place, we'd be forced into that particular characterization and we could count the different personalities we could make Hawke on one hand. Or less.

Personally, I prefer no voice, because I like to imagine tone of voice, inflection, and the whole nine yards, but if a roleplaying game is going to be voiced, that voice will be neutral, by necessity. It certainly isn't because the actor can't emote--we heard him do so very well in DA:O. It's because that's what he was instructed to do to allow for different interpretations. This isn't an interactive movie where you just choose the dialogue.

Same here, I pre-ordered & only needed to cough up $5, full amount is paid when you pick up your copy of the game.

And I've read somewhere in the boards that if you pre-order via Amazon (correct me if I'm wrong here) you don't even need to put down a deposit since payment is deducted before shipping (or something like that, again, I could have misinterpreted the Amazon thing)

Well, see, this is well said - and explains perfectly why I was - and seem to still be - against a voiced PC.

If I have to listen to a voice speaking lines, let it have emotion.  Otherwise, let me say the line in my head, and leave the game silent.

This is, IMO, the worst of both worlds.

Question!

Why is the blood/whatever on Hawke's nose in some scenes but not others?  Does he smear it on on special occassions?

The blood smear - or perhap nutella smear ™ - is an optional facial feature.  In game, it will either always be there, or never.

Curious...
Will they use the same animations for scenes involving
Isabela/FemHawke? That's assuming, of course, that she is in fact an LI
for FemHawke as well.
I'm just saying because I think it would look
really awkward for Isabela to do the same jumping on and wrapping legs
around maneuver to FemHawke that she does to MaleHawke. I mean wouldn't
it? [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/grin.png[/smilie]

This looks so. very. good. I love the environments. I love the acting. I love the character snippets we're getting. I love the way they're planning on telling the story. I kind of have a crush on default Hawke, which is going to make it hard to playthrough with my fem!Hawke... unless of course that IS Anders and he IS an LI in which case I am going to DANCE FOR JOY FOR HOURS. And possibly kiss the feet of whichever devs happen to pass by.

In short. There's a lot of love going down in this Sydney mum's living room. A LOT.

I don't see how someone that doesn't live or has ever traveled to Australia is expected to know that. So as to why you need to make some kind of smart ass post is beyond me.
