Update 1/16/11 - Finished And Rendered!

Finally finished it. I added as much detail as I could. I was going to do the large scales like in the earlier version, but it didn't look too good. So I kept his head skinned. I'm really satisfied with the outcome. Considering this is my first character model, I'm shocked by the outcome. In all it took me about 5-6 days to complete. I was initially going to texture it, but I might not. I really like the clay look. It was really fun to do this, and it taught me a lot. I gained a lot of experience in the program and wouldn't mind doing another model. I hope you guys like it. Comments/Critiques are welcome. So what do you think? Be sure to look at the progress photos to see the different stages of the model and how it came to be like this. The original post below also has some details regarding how I started on this.

Here's my fan contribution to the ME series. Doing this in my spare time when I'm not modeling for environments. To be honest it started out as a practice model in Zbrush where I was going to experiment making aliens. About half way through, I noticed it started to look like a Salarian. I figured what the heck, go ahead and make one since I'd have concepts and references to go along with instead of pulling stuff out of thin air. So here it is. It's note exactly like the ones in game, at least it doesn't look like it to me. But it's obviously a Salarian. Just 2.0 :P This is only the basic model I've done so far. I plan on adding a lot more detail and then texture it. The reason I posted this was because I recall someone doing a wrex or some krogan model before and showing it off. Thought I might as well too right? Gonna keep working on it, it's pretty fun.

What do you guys think?

There's a forum for fan creations, and you'd probably get more feedback there.

Since I don't do much 3d modeling, not much I can say.

As a layman it looks impressive.

Oh, completely missed that. :pinched: I don't really look lower than the ME2 spoiler forum unless it's the troubleshooting one, but given that it's directly below the spoilers I should have seen it. I'll get a mod to move it then. Thanks for the comment though. ;)

I think it looks like one of those plastic moulds that you get when you do the little plastic mould things. Unless you take that as an insult, in which case I don't think that at all.

No worries. ;) I don't understand what you're referring to though - the shape or the material being plasticy? I think I have an idea of the plastic moulds but can't really remember. Sorry.

I was thinking of the Mold-A-Rama machines. It has that plastic sheen to it, I think.

I wouldn't mind a Mold-A-Rama Mass Effect army.

I see what you mean now. Then in that case it's the material I'm currently using. Zbrush sets that one by default, I just haven't changed it yet. It's a wax material, the plastic one looks much more like the pic you referenced above. It'll look normal once it's textured. :)

It looks like candy by the way (the pic you provided) :D I just want to eat it. Weird huh?

Would a 3D Mold-A-Rama Mass Effect Salarian army suffice? Bear in mind you won't be able to touch it. Physically. :P

Coming along really nicely! Totally recognizable as a Salarian, and it will be interesting to see once you've got the final details and textures in place.

Thanks Gabrielk. :) It didn't really look as good as the game version to me at first. I'm starting to like it now though.

Updated the first post. Read for info.

Thanks :) Can't really see all of the detail because of the material and size, but it's everywhere. I need to find out how to render to a hi res file...

Wow. That is crazy. I just have some suggestions:

Make the horns longer.

Make the eyes bigger.

Thanks :). I'm actually planning on going back and changing a few things after looking at a few more salarian pics. The eyes were already on my to do list, but I'll see what I can do with the horns.

Thanks darth. :) I'm still working on getting it as close as I can. It's a real challenge. For example I think the face is too straight, too linear. Gotta work on that too.
Thanks for the comments,

I made it from zspheres. So yeah :) Usually I'd model a base mesh in Maya and then import it. But this time, I did it from zspheres (Drawing circular meshes and sculpting from that) It was basically large one, and two of the "Tentacle" things . Looked kind of like a pillow at first. :P
