Carver, at least he's interesting and his endgame dialogue makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. I don't understand the love for Bethany, she's rather dull.

thing is the OMG how dare you save my life applies to both if you take them to the deep roads with anders and they become a warden and even if carver becomes a templar he still moans about how its all you fault so Definatley Bethany bacause Carver's so broody that if he smiled i think his face would crack

Well maybe it has something to do with the fact that apart from once in the whole game all Carver does is whine and moan about always being in your shadow and how everything that happens to him is all your fault and its bad enough with Anders whinging all the time without getting it from carver too but to each their own

Get Friendship with Carver, then. He has unique friendship dialogue where he thanks you and stuff instead of whining.

I agree with KoP, there's no reason to get to know Carver, you can tell as soon as he opens his mouth that he is dull and stupid and unworthy.

That's also why I always kill Loghain at the Landsmeet in DA:O.

That's an awful lot of sucking up to make him agreeable if you never liked him in the first place.

Personally I liked friendship warden Carver (I console command-ed his friendship up, because I was never going to see it otherwise), but I like Bethany all the time, so if I had to (or indeed 'could') choose it'd be the one I liked from the start. Would've liked to see the dynamic between Bethany and a mage PC (or even Carver and a warrior/rogue) too, but that's another matter.

Bethany was kind of meh on the one full walkthrough I did for DA2. Second walkthrough stopped somewhere towards ending of Act I, but at least I got attached to my little brother.

Carver is an awesome character and vastly more relatable and interesting than Bethany.  Bethany is fine and she serves her purpose in the narrative well enough.  She's good motivation for my non-mage Hawkes.  As characters in their own right, though, Carver is superior.
