Carver reminds me of my own little brother. Bethany has some great emotional scenes. I don't know who I'd choose...
Probably Carver. 2H Warrior is almost TOO powerful.
Bethany or Carver..If you had a choice

Bethany, since she is a mage, and two mages would get along better.

Bethany...
I might have actually gave Carver a chance if he didn't have to act like a spoiled brat most of the time.
Although I have to admit some of his dialogue was more interesting than Bethany's.

Carver. No contest. He's still my choice even after all these months. (What's with the necro, btw?)
Anyway. I would have loved to have a choice between sibling and mother. I wanted both Carver and Bethany.
Maybe Bioware could have "penalized" the player for not saving the mother at the beginning of the story by making it harder to get into Kirkwall. (Perhaps Gamlen gets pissed and bails on them?) Or, perhaps they don't get the Amell estate back and move into some other house (one that is not as nice).
Those are some "realistic" consequences to that action, I believe.

I honestly like them both but game play wise if I'm not a mage, the only mage I like is Bethany.
I would have preferred having them both, and if one or both had to die it happen later in the story when it would have more of an emotional meaning.

I cannot stand Carver: having to put up with him pretty much forced me to give up the mage playthrough. I really liked Bethany though. So there's no contest in my book.
The part that really sucks is that you don't get to keep Bethany as a companion for most of the game even if she survives. Which sucks especially because she's the only one with the healing spell (other than Anders, who is even worse than Carver).

Who needs Anders as long as you got health potions?

Who needs Anders if you play a PC? Just console Merrill the spirit healer or creation trees and be done with it, cheaper than potions.TobiTobsen wrote...
