She's got such a great character design that it would be a waste not to.

Lol, but she's your sister!
While BioWare seems to be one of the leading companies in the relationship department in RPG games, I don't think even they would go that far.

I wish they would be cheeky enough to make the player think it is a possibility with one of Hawke's responses. Then turn around and make Bethany repulsed by Hawke's response.

Bethany. We hear Carver speak for the first time in the new Story video, and what's he say? He blames Hawke for forcing them to run away from templars who are out to get his brother. WTH? What sort of guy does that?
Exactly. Carver sounds like a whiny douche. You'd think he'd be more concerned with protecting his family mage or not. And considering the main character wasn't his only mage relative.

I read the situation more as "you just had to aggravate those templars, didn't you?!"

She's just about the only decent looking female I've seen in the game, so decent looking girl with bit ****** vs some normal dude, female wins every time. I probably wont even play as a mage as I know i'll be forced to take Carver with me instead.

The only reason I'm playing a mage in my first run-through is for Carver.
This. I hope there is a way to save both, though.

Hmm...
I don't like the rogue animations, they look rediculous.
Hmm...
I guess...I will play a human warrior or a human warrior. Bethany seems cooler than Carver. Perhaps Carver isn't all that bad, but I'll have to give him a chance because, after rogues, mages are my favourite style of character to play as.

Since i always starts a RPG with a rogue.
And because i already have two brothers in real life : no need for a third, even a virtual one...

Sure, but if the player gets to select which sibling dies that doesn't make the event any less random for Hawke. In Exile wrote...
I don't think all things should be a player choice, though. From Hawke's PoV, the death of a companion is going to be entirely random. Wrong place, wrong time. Cosmic fluke. Only the player has the meta-game knowledge of why a particular sibling dies.
