Except, my male characters are generally mages, and my non-mage characters are typically female, so it looks like I'll never have a mixed-gender pair.
That will be interesting, actually. I would expect two brothers to have a very different relationship from that of two sisters. I wonder how much difference we'll actually see.

Carver. I like the Raistlin/Caramon dynamic. Aww, yeah.
Awesome! Another Dragonlance chronicles fan!
I was also thinking of that dynamic either between mage Hawk and Carver or warrior Hawk and Bethany. I plan on being a mage on my first playthrough and seeing that relationship play out would be interesting. Carver looks very interesting and I wouldn't mind having another brother, even if he is a virtual one haha.

BioWare does like to bombard us with spoilers in their marketing material.Malanek999 wrote...
To be honest I think it would have been better not to know about the Bethany/Carver getting saved based on your class.
It's very annoying.

It would also have been bether if it was because of an ingame choice, like if you save a group of strangers or your sister/brother.Malanek999 wrote...

I'm still hoping that its just a missunderstandning and that it doesnt have to do with you class who survives. But I'm not holding my breath.

Maybe, maybe not. Choices are good and all but your character can't (or shouldn't be able to) control everything all the time. Bad things sometimes happen to you that you can't prevent.Johnny Shepard wrote...

Perhaps. But still, I don't like that it depends on class. Unless its something like a Mage Hawke can't save Bethany because he's a mage or a Warrior/Rouge can't save Carver because he's a Warrior/Rouge.Malanek999 wrote...

Why is it that whenever a bioware person responds with "it doesn't matter which of the twins lives or dies" and "it's integral to the story" and "who said that they're party members outside of the prologue?"..... I always think "what if Bethany/Carver becomes some sort of scary-final-boss-monster-thingy??"Lukas Kristjanson wrote...

I insist that the player is the final arbiter of what is dramatically correct.Lukas Kristjanson wrote...
Mods can do many things but they have their limits, and honestly, they are rarely concerned with what is dramatically correct.
And I'll do whatever I can to make the game accommodate the maximum number of mages.
Yes, that's a fine platitude, and I would generally agree. But my comment wasn't about a player, it was about a mod. If you want to propose wildly divergent interpretations for character motivation within the dramatic framework we provide, hell, I encourage that. I don't purposefully close those doors if I can avoid it.
But the moment someone alters the framework with a mod, however minor they believe it to be, they have rewritten the book or refilmed the movie. Which I'm not opposed to, far from it. But if you choose to do it, it's now DA:Sylvius. Which may be a fine game to you, and if you wanted you could mod everyone to simply be a mage. But in doing so, you have accepted rather more responsibilty than that of "player" and you have effectively released me of my concern as a writer for making it work or make sense.
So have fun. Please do. Just don't come cryin'. S'all I'm saying.
I don't really believe that whole-heartedly... but... I'm just saying.
EDIT: Or what if they both die? One in the prologue and one in the first part of the game.

My champion is super awesomely good, he'd kill himself to save them both rather than sacrificing one of them. It would be the shortest BioWare game of all time - but at least you'd be able to nod appreciatively and exclaim well played - then reload and choose (snipped)
