Not at all.
But suggesting that it's a bad idea because players might not like it seems to ignore the content of other BioWare romances.
I accept that if I start a BioWare romances I might:
* Have to let them sleep with another
* Get dumped
* Watch the person I love die for me
* Have the person I love commit suicide if I leave them
* Have them taken hostage
* Have them go insane and turn evil
* Whatever other sadistic crap the writers think up.

All 'morality and love?' There are many arranged marriages in Thedas. Sneaking out for a bit on the side is acceptable for both genders.glenboy24 wrote...
If this were set in the modern age I could see them going to a Dalish Sperm bank and taking care of that. However, the idea of letting another man lay with your beloved for *any* reason flies in the face of all morality and love.
And we're not just talking about Hawke's society. The Dalish would probably like their mages to pop out little elven mages. Merrill might feel she has a duty beyond her love of Hawke.Prima nocta is disgusting because it's a form of rape. It's also mostly fictitious wherein sleeping with someone other than your boyfriend is hardly unusual.It's as disgusting as Premanocta.
1) Hawke and Merrill don't fall into the catagory of arranged marriages. If you're with Merril in the context of how BioWare usually handles romances then it's because she love you, deeply. She isn't going to want to mess around. She isn't Isabela.
2) Yes, I'm sure the Dalish would want Merrill to have an Elven child, Magic oriented or no. However, it's unlikely they would ask Merrill to make that kind of choice if she's as deeply devoted to Hawke as she's likely to be. Again, that's how BioWare usually does it. Soul Mates and so on. You putting Merrill into *your* shoes, i.e. what you think is cosure. It's unlikely Mary Kirby gave her your personality, sense of Morality. Not that you're a bad person, I think you're hilarious. But, Merril ain't you.
3) Prima Nocta is fictitious? Have you ever picked up a History Book, or taken a course in World history or anthropology? It was far from *fiction.* It was gross and it happened quite often especially in the Northern Europe and parts of France and Ireland/Scottland. I compared Merrill laying with another man to it because of the emotional damage it would do to one partner or another.

I don't think the Dalish keepers are according to biological successors, but to how strong and wise the person is as a mage within the community. I think Lanaya said she had to earn the right to become the Keeper's first or something in DAO. Then there is the actuality of having a mage as a child. Is there really a guarantee that she will have a mage as a child?

You're also kind of discounting the fact that even though these options/scenarios came up, there were also ways to avoid them and have a happy ending with your respective LI. It was not always cut and dry, but BioWare has always given players way to keep thier romances guilt free. With my DAO playthrough I either asked my best friend Alistair to take one for the team or asked Loghain to do it in another. Either way, never cheated on Leliana.

I personally prefer my romances to be as sadistic, drama filled and emotionally crippling as possible.

To each thier own. I don't begrudge others thier Greek Tradegy like desires, but I sure as heck don't want them nor do I see the value in them. And I love Greek Epics! Still...Merrill, if she is a LI, will not be something I'll want to see torn apart nor do I expect BioWare to take that road. It might be an option, but it won't be the only one. Also...(ahem) ONE HUNDRED PAGES!!!!

If we couldn't agree on what kind of children to have I would question why we were together in the first place. Most likely it would end in us going our separate ways.

That could also be proposed to Merrill as well. What if Hawke wanted a human child? She would be denying him, the champion of Kirkwall, the right because of her own selfish needs.

Okay, I'm going to back off here as I seemed to have pushed a button.
Asking me if I've ever picked up a history book is rather insulting. Moreover, I'd suggest that both of us are obviously working within the framework of our respective moralities.
Neither of us have any idea what her actual personality is or outlook is.

She could always have a child with Hawke later when they have an elven child to raise, or vice versa.

She could have elven and human children if she desired.
