Arron is seven-years old. At night, he sleeps on a thin mat with no blanket. His mother works two jobs and often has to leave him alone for most of the day. He can't read and knows no verses from the Chant of Light.

Most days he only gets one meal. Some days he doesn't eat at all.

But you can help. For only three pennies a day, you can help the Brothers and Sisters of the Chantry Arron gets the food and spiritual education he needs.

Dave, this has been covered at length. Elves are not dying out.

They are struggling, their lifespans are shortening if you want to believe the Dalish and they are constantly killed and raped by the humans in the city. A humanxelf couple would be helping in the destruction of the elves because that would mean another elf is "lost" to the humans, a dalish elf (Marrill) would understand that more than anybody.

... and the "few in number" thing isn't something that should be brushed aside like nothing. There is a problem, if Merrill wants an elven child and you refuse her because it's your "right" to have a child with her... then... yeah.

Struggling does not equate "Dying Out." Alot of races and people "Struggle." And thier struggle is mostly economical or land-based, as in they have yet to claim a Homeland of thier own once more. Also, thier lifespans are not shortening, that *already* happened thousands of years ago when the Elves of Arlathan encountered Humans. Something happened, thier "blood quickened" and they started to age.

Now, they have the life span of an average human; however, the Dalish are slowly starting to reclaim thier longevity. Some believe is has to do with thier segregation from Humans, other think it might have to do with a reafirmed connection to thier gods. One of many questions to be answered. And no, I don't think the "Few In Numbers" observation should be taken likely, however it should not be used to proliferate Doomsday scenarios.

Also, one could assume with a degree of logic that when Velanna mentions her people being "Few In Number," she could very well be refering to the Dalish tribes, not Elves as a whole. Taking these factors into account, the idea that Merrill, alone, with her Human Husband, would be assisting the extinction of the Elven Race is ludicrous.

One Elven woman alone is not going to effect the population shift, especially when one takes into account the fact that she, or any Elven Woman, could be killed or simply dissapear, possibly claimed by the Darkspawn to be used as a Broodmother. Her addition to the overall statistical equation is miniscule, at best. Lastly, should she choose to have an Elven child she could easily adopt if such a child is a preference.

Should she Love Hawke as deeply as most Romances are presented in a BioWare game it is unlikely that she would insist on procreating with an Elven male so as to give Birth to an Elven child. Even if it is for the simple sake of procreation, it *is* a betrayal of sorts. Even if Hawke gave his consent, it would be a dark mark on thier relationship because it would forever be on the mind whether or not Merrill prefered, in some way, the touch of her Elven child's donating father.

I will concede that Hawke's point of view may be my own beliefs interceding; none the less the possibility alone is one of many damaging variables. As to the Dwarven question: Well, your response would make it appear as though you're being sarcastic, and if you are I'm not going to humor you by responding.

How is this any different then with Zevran or Fenris?
Wardens might be very close to infertile but Zevran isn't. That people only seem to care when it's a female elf makes no sense to me.

Because there have not been any confirmations that Dwarven men are infertile. This has *long* been a problem for the Dwarven people, such is the reason they began the tradition of Dwarven Nobles having many "Mothers" for thier Children. The more women they sleep with, the more likely one of them will bare a child. It has nothing to do with sexism; whatever is effecting Dwarven Women (Lyrium, some kind of genetic defect, a curse) reduces thier Fertility. This is covered in several codexes and it can be reviewed on the racial page on the DA Wiki.

Because Zevran already gets around, for one thing.  As for Fenris... I don't know.  Got no comeback on that score.

It may also have other factors.  Allow me to use an example.
When modern-day hunters go looking for a deer to shoot, they usually wait for a buck (male deer) before aiming and firing.  This isn't because a stuffed head looks better with antlers.  It's because when you shoot a female deer, you are essentially killing both the doe and all her descendants.  Which ultimately leads to a smaller population for you to hunt in the future.
Granted, I'm talking about deer here, not people.

I'd rather train her as a healer. I'm not really interested in putting any mage Hawke in that position, and Bethany doesn't seem the type anyways. Besides, with that cute little kitten face of hers, I have a hard time picturing her zapping people left and right, never mind blood magic.

<_<

One of my elven blood mages had the Suave voice set.  She had the cutest battle giggle.  And right after she boiled an enemy's blood and exploded him in a purple haze, she'd say "what a mess."  It was epic.

OK :)
I tought someone of the talented and creative people around here would do smthg special for the 100th page, so I guess its the turn of the untalented and uncreative... ME.

This particular "shoop" could be presented (following a very familiar term used in the forum these days) as the "dumbed-down" version of Merrill... lol

Can't answer to the long post, busy at the moment.

The reason it's different with Zevran and Fenris is because we're talking about Merrill, the Dalish Elf, wanting an elven child herself and you refusing her. I doubt Zev and Fen care about that much.

Dunno why people have suddenly become so focused on the idea that LI Merrill would want to have herself an elf child if she married Hawke.  But if that was in the game... character/story wise that would SUCK.  Unless Hawke can talk her down, it's going to either hurt Merrill, hurt Hawke, or hurt both of them.  But of course, what great story isn't without some pain somewhere?

It seems like that requires multiple assumptions about characters we know little about (almost to a ridiculous level).

Assumption of Fenris' part, yes. Though we know he's Tevinter and former slave, I doubt he'd really care much about elvendom.

Zevran views himself more as an Antivan than an elf, I doubt he cares about elfing it up.

The assumption on Merrill's part is what we're discussing.
