I'm glad they've gotten rid of the Ranger spec and won't be putting summoning spells in. That's supposed to be against the magical lore.

The Mabari you get with a new copy is less a companion and more a summonable animal.

You may be right, did they confirm the no summoning spells? Just looking over the mage tree it looks like animate dead might still be in. I'd like it to be, but I'd be suprised if they added a summoning mechanic to DA2 just for the one spell.

If you use the Summon Persists mod, it is pretty much like that. Your pet is unkillable, you just have to make sure you set up the tactics as you want on the first go.Zjarcal wrote...

Ah well, I guess it's a little sketchy to have a human rogue use Ranger anyway.
I always tried to imagine it not so much as "summoning" but more of just having a wolf pet (or bear or spider). That's how I RP'd my HNF rogue anyway. She probably spent more time connecting with nature than dealing with nobility crap.
*sighs*
Oh well, no ranger Hawke for us.

In DA:O it was an ok spec but it didn't feel very fun to play. If we can summon demons like our girl Merrill seems to be able to do than that would be great.

Nope, she had some fire spells and "weakness" from entropy (according to the wiki). She could have hidden her blood mage powers, of course.

No. She had your usual Arcane Bolt type spitballs. Maybe she kept it a secret or started taking PhD courses in destruction during the Blight.bluewolv1970 wrote...

Blood mages can summon demons, if Arvenis (or whatever his name was) is anything to go by. Granted they then turned around and slaughtered his peeps, but he did summon them.

And why a dalish would do that when no templar was nearby? Zathrian was a blood mage. No need why the dalish would forbid such things or see it as a taboo.

It's possible that blood magic is discouraged even among the Dalish. It would make sense. The Dalish have no love for the Chantry, but they do have common sense.
