Not every NPC in your party should be interested in you that way.... and to use your example. Wynne isn't an LI because she's as old as the warden's grandmother, Sten because he never even though of having an outsider as a friend not to mention an love interest.... I could go on with every companion that was not an LI but I think I made my point :P

Well, the Merrill cat's out of the bag.

You'd think Gaider saying that Merrill will have an official reveal would have been enough.

Not to mention the plethora of other evidence. Honestly, why were some people so adamant that she was possibly not a companion?

They are no doubt sowing doubt so the devs don't end up kicking over their anthill.

Like people wondering if Fenris is going to be an LI, when he's practically got a neon arrow over his head and a sign reading "Lust here."

I will only accept that Merril is a LI when I beat the final boss of DA2 and she is still standing by my side, or at least when bioware shows us her connection to the story (as is the case with Aveline, and mostly Varric and Isabella).

Mhairi scarred me for life.

Do you mind if I ever repeat that? I laughed hard.

"... but I haven't taken my Joining yet."

lol foreshadowing

However, while Mhairi was nice and I was sad to see her die, she doesn't hold a candle to Justice, IMHO.

That's a little much, considering that you probably won't be able to romance her after the final boss. But it is understandable. Mhairi was my favorite from DAO:A.

Well, you had romance dialogue for every other romance after the Archdemon (if you count Witch Hunt, Morrigan has some too--she also has epilogue slides if you don't).

Really? IMHO there wasn't remotely enough interaction with her to make much of an impression. I liked the idea of her before I played the game but the reality was underwhelming.

I guess it is because I couldn't really connect with any of the characters in Awakening. Mhairi had potential of being a good companion for me, so I tend to favor her more.

We should have noticed something was off about her when her trailer only showed her in Vigil's Keep

She was one of the few true likeable characters in Awakenings.  Her personality was magnified 100% when my list of companions included a guy who has come expressly to kill me totally unaware and defending his murderous father to the end.  A mage with a smart mouth who I felt like killing right off the bat and a snotty, dumb, murderous female elf.

(Justice was cool though)

I liked Howe's son alot as a character. He developed a long way from blindly hating my character to finding out what kind of a man his father really was and then becoming my Warden's friend. His was one of the brightest parts of the story because he had an entire character arc happening during the game.

Anders was fun because he was a less childlik, whiney, cooler version of Alistair and that was a huge plus. I remember liking Alistair for a while but my god he wouldn't shut up about Duncan. I lost all respect for him when he was willing to abandon the fight against the Blight because you spare Loghain.... really? You're going to leave us in the middle of a Blight? Duncan would be so proud of you. So I let him get killed.

I'm looking forward to seeing what merrill's character will end up becoming. I hope she's a super sweet person who happens to be a Blood Mage. Beecause just using your blood for a spell doesn't instantly make you a monster. I also look forward to whatever Dalish Clan activities are involved with her.

Despite the limited interaction Nathaniel, Sigrun and Justice came across as great characters to me. I really do hope we see Nathaniel in DA2, much rather him than Anders.

Sigrun was by far my favorite from Awakenings, I liked Velanna a bit also, obviously the whole crazy, anti-human stuff was bad, but in many ways she was quite similar to Morrigan. Also, the Sigrun-Velanna interactions were hilarious and awesome :) . I mostly just took them along, and didnt even bother with a third, as I largely found the others annoying. Justice was the best of the rest no doubt, I took him along a bit after I recruited him near the end, and would've taken him along more if I'd found him earlier, but the others I almost never took along at all. Im hopeful that Merrill will be as funny and cool as Sigrun, definitely a tall order but I'm confident that she can do it :) .

I love Sigrun. And on the topic of cuteness, even though I'm allergic, I can handle it if Merrill has a Sigrun level of cuteness. As opposed to Leliana or Tali who make me want to hurl.

I think if Merril is a bloodmage, the cuteness will find a lovely counterbalance.

Sten can't be romanced because he doesn't care for that sort of thing. Even though Morrigan hit on him, and he eventually said he'd sleep with her, he only did that to scare her off. Which worked amusingly well, 'cause it's Morrigan.

I think it goes beyond a lack of care on Sten's part and is ,pre related to him being a follower of the Qun.  Love is a foreign concept to him.  Sten's lines with Morrigan are pure gold, along with Zevran teasing her under a bet.

My favourite companion in Awakening is Velanna 'cause she's easily offended. For example: replying to Sigrun's thought, that her pointy ears made it easier for her to hear, to which she replied "Are you saying my ears are clownish?!" Plus she's a female Dalish Elf Mage! Aha!

:o

Leliana had that counterbalance as well. Sweetness with an undertone of darkness.

That's what makes her so , but let's not go there!

*thinks happy thoughts*

I'm currently running my Dalish rogue through Awakening (I took her through once but must have deleted the game).  Anyway Velanna keeps yelling "I AM THE MIGHT OF THE DALISH" and I picture my Warden turning around and giving her a <_< look.

I was a little disappointed that there's no Dalish-specific dialogue when you encounter her clan.  Oh well.  I'm hoping that if you import a Dalish Hero of Ferelden, it gets commented on, maybe by Merrill herself.

Valid point, but I'm hoping for more than an undertone with Merril.  I mean, it's blood magic.  That's less er, mundane? than assassination and playing spy.
