I think if Merril is a bloodmage, the cuteness will find a lovely counterbalance.

Leliana had that counterbalance as well. Sweetness with an undertone of darkness.

Leliana did have her darkside...especially when it came to talking about Marjolaine( which after playing Leliana's past made TOTAL sense) and after you hardened her...which I made a point to do every single time...

I think Merrill's sweetness will be counteracted by her badassery as a mage...not just blood magic but her overall spellpower. ;)

My favourite companion in Awakening is Velanna 'cause she's easily offended. For example: replying to Sigrun's thought, that her pointy ears made it easier for her to hear, to which she replied "Are you saying my ears are clownish?!" Plus she's a female Dalish Elf Mage! Aha!

:o

I'm currently running my Dalish rogue through Awakening (I took her through once but must have deleted the game).  Anyway Velanna keeps yelling "I AM THE MIGHT OF THE DALISH" and I picture my Warden turning around and giving her a <_< look.

I was a little disappointed that there's no Dalish-specific dialogue when you encounter her clan.  Oh well.  I'm hoping that if you import a Dalish Hero of Ferelden, it gets commented on, maybe by Merrill herself.

My first character imported into Awakening was a City Elf, and I found it constantly annoying (in Witch Hunt as well, with Ariane) the fact that the game barely acknowledges he's an elf.

I hate Leliana's Song, practically the only 2 things that are mentioned in Origins, that are acurate in Her Song are the names Leliana and Marjolaine. She came to Fereldan to get away from Marjolaine, not to join the Chantry so that Marjolaine couldn't touch her. She never even came to Fereldan til after the events with Marjolaine.

So we find a dead body on the ground. The body itself looks to have been sucked completely dry of blood. In a pile of ash we find the letter M drawn upon the ground. There are two suspects one is Merrill, your cute companion that you met only two weeks ago. The other is a strange man who has a habit of hiding his face and wears a hood over his head. Both are mages, but you do you blame?

Which is why i think they screwed it up...bringing her to fereldan in the way they did...but then again...it seems to me, they only did that so they could continue to keep what orlais and other countries not shown or focused on yet under wraps and not show us...future countires and areas we may and probadly will get to explore....

There would have been a good chance that all of what happened to Leliana in Orlais, would have been overlooked.

I gurandamntee that  would have happened in my case...if only because I would have wanted to explore Orlais to my heart's content...lol

@ Siradix...assuming hawke isn't a male whose name begins with M... I would follow the evidence to dind out who is truelly responcible for the act...and the depending on the person murdered and the killer's reasons...I would then decide their fate in some sort of way. ;)

Indeed that is what you could do, but there could be planted evidence as well.

I tend to think in this case... I will have Merrill's back no matter what...but Marethari is also someone whom I would look into for this particular type of situation if the evidence led to her...I would also need to hear her side of things...

I thought she was pretty motherly.  Her speeches about it being your duty to fight the Blight were darn convincing. That and not wanting to look like a wuss in front of Duncan.  I always figured my Dalish rogue made the best Warden of any of my posse.  She knew what it meant to sacrifice for the group.

Mine would have preferred to strip naked and thrash about on the ground like a baby than to leave her clan. Especially if it meant she'd be helping shemlens stay alive.

I didn't ever play my Dalish PCs as real shem-haters. I took a cue from the keepers being Arlathan nobility and the PC child of a keeper, so I played it that they had a kind of inherent dignity as well as an understanding of duty. Oh, and out to get some payback for Tamlen.

Zathrian, Sarel, and Mithra turned me off playing a "shem-hater Dalish".

LOL... I completely agree... and that's why I always found it hard to side with the elves whenever it came to that questline whenever I didn't play as an elf(dalish, city, or mage(though usually i did... I just didn't side with Zathrian all the time).

Yes it is, however every bit of info's been taken apart and put back together gazillion times... so until we get more info ( a reveal pls Bioware ) some will speak about things that might be indirectly related to Merrill... or not :P

Nice job becoming a ghoul Shriek and spreading the Taint to your kin. Dalish Elf is the only Origin that actually needs to become a GW to stay alive.

About Merril, is her class actually Dalish Pariah? I hope there´s not a skill tree with that name.

Not her class, her specialization... and I guess that's the name of her spec or something similar since many people translated it the same way.

I guess it's how they did it in Mass Effect, where each follower has a specialization that's also a character trait.

Yeah, it was and that was usually the first thing I leveled up and eventually maxed out in my playthroughs of ME( haven't played ME 2 yet...gonna get DA 2 first, then pick it up for PS3 later :wizard:).

There are some differences in dialogue with Velanna and Justice and you get the odd comment about your elfiness. But remember you're also the Warden-Commander and the Hero of Ferelden. It would hardly be suitable for the city guards to run around calling you a knife-ears.

The only thing that annoyed me in Awakening was when Sigrun mentioned to Velanna that she was "the first elf I've ever known." Uh, did you miss the pointy ears there, Sigrun?
