No. The artists have this thing about elves and shoes. Don't get me started.
He was referring to Fenris, but probably it means for at least a lot of elves
And we can't change their outfit, either. I suppose we should be glad they didn't add little wings on their shoulders.

If the 6th companion is Anders: they will probably get along. THey've already shown a relationship between Anders and a Keeper's apprentice exiled (Merrill we don't know if she's exiled, but it's a possibility). Another elf who threats Anders like an idiot will be cliche. Plus Merrill will have problem in Kirkwall due of her apostate-maleficar status, Anders will probably simpathize with her (both if he's Grey Warden or apostate himself)

As for Isabella, if Hawke is a lady, Merrill wont be problably an availabe LI, so they have more chances to become friends.
As for Varric, he's a shady character from Kirkwall's underworld, he doesnt know nor has any relation, memory, longings for the Dwarven Thaigs... But he might been himself involved in business with trading elves as slaves or smthg in those lines, that could be trouble...

I mean in the end you either agree with the companion and that leads to romance or you have rivalry which leads to them accepting your opinion and then we get the romance only another way... I think of them as two different roads for the same destination.
